What are we?
There are so many different sorts of churches; so what can we tell you briefly about the one which meets at Bulford Chapel? It is an Independent Church —that means it is not part of any denomination, although it has strong links with other local evangelical churches and is associated with the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches, a Partner of Affinity (formerly the British Evangelical Council). We welcome people from any church background or none. It is a Congregational Church —that means that it stands in the tradition of those who believe that the local congregation of believers rather than some "superior" power, whether it be pope, bishop, or denomination, is entrusted by Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, with conducting its own affairs, and fulfilling his commission to preach the Gospel. It is an Evangelical Church —that means that we believe and teach the Evangel, or Gospel, revealed by God in his Word, the Bible. The Bible is, we believe, God’s blueprint for life, and governs the message we proclaim, the way we worship God, and the lives we seek to live. In other words, we try to hold to Biblical Christianity, with no "ifs" or "buts". |
