Addictions: Psychosocial and psychopharmalogical Aspects

Psychosocial aspects of Addiction ( led by Professor Richard Vellerman, Trust/University of Bath):
1. Causes of problem use of particularly alcohol and illicit substances.
2. Development of psycho-social problems resulting from drug/alcohol use and misuse.
3. Effectiveness of support for family members and problem users.
4. Development of both services.
Psychopharmalogical aspects of Addiction (led by Professor David Nutt, Trust/University of Bristol).
1. Employs psycho-pharmalogical techniques to study the basis of addictions and also links into development of practical applications for treatment.
By combining the psychosocial and psychopharmacological aspects of addiction, the single programme now spans the entire research interests with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Parnership NHS Trust and each of their 3 partner universities.
