La Fleche Twinning weekend.

A party of 12 Lions and partners joined our friends in the Durtal/La Fleche Lions Club to help them celebrate their 30th Charter celebrations over the weekend 24th - 27th October. And what a fantastic weekend we were treated to!

From the moment we met up on the friday evening to the goodbyes on monday morning our hosts overwhelmed us with their hospitality. The Charter Dinner was held on the friday evening in a nearby Chateau, and we were pleased to present them with a inscribed glass bowl and a cheque to support their chosen charity - providing clean water in Africa. But the highlight of the evening was the rendition by a large number of poncho wearing La Fleche club members performing....... an interpretation inoubiable du Chanteur de Mexico...

Saturday saw us visiting the Cointreau Distilliary in nearby Angers before another getogether in the evening. The pace did not let up on sunday, as early in the morning saw the party aboard a coach bound for Sable-d'Olonne where special arrangements had been made for the party to tour the jetties at which the yatches taking part in this years' single-handed round the world race were making their final preparations.

This was followed by lunch - a seafood platter complete with half a crab, oysters, langoustines, prawns and other shellfood - in an establishment on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic rollers crashing onto the rocks below!

Merci une mille fois a toutes les Lions de La Fleche et ses famillies for une weekend encroyable!!!

We are now looking forward to receiving the return visit from our friends from La Fleche on the weekend 24/25 October 2009 - and are scratching our heads to think of ideas for things to do that will compare favourably with the trip we have just had and enjoyed so much.

A la prochaine!!!!
