First Great Western Donation

(Bandmaster), Geoffrey Woodman.First Great Western donation is music to Chippenham’s ears!

The streets of Chippenham were filled with the sounds of new music this week thanks to a donation from the First Great Western Community Project. Members of the Chippenham Town Band were rehearsing new songs for their upcoming concerts following a donation of new sheet music.

The First Great Western Community Project is an ongoing initiative by the local train operator, giving something back to charities, voluntary organisations and schools in the areas it serves, through donations and charity initiatives.

The Chippenham Town Band has 25 members, from school age to seniors, and plays a wide range of music from marches to big band, pop to light classical and music from films and shows.

Andrew Bisping, Chairman of the Chippenham Town Band said; “We are delighted to receive this new music donation from First Great Western Community Project at a time we are expanding our membership too. We’d welcome more woodwind and brass players to join the Band to share our enjoyment of music and take it to the local community, when we play carols in Chippenham at Christmas, ahead of a full 2008 programme.”

The First Great Western Community Project supports local causes within the communities of some of the 70 million passengers carried across the network every year in South Wales, the West Country, the Cotswolds and large parts of Southern England.

First Great Western Service Delivery Manager for Chippenham, Dee McBride, commented; “The First Great Western Community Project is delighted to make such a worthwhile contribution to such an entertaining and clearly talented organisation. Music is a great pastime to enjoy, so it’s wonderful that we have helped them expand their musical repertoire.”
