The beginning

The Cock Inn Rangers football club; was founded in january 2001,by Manager Js Glasson, and Simon Clark.Glasson having just finished a 5 year spell with another local side,Prestbury utd, who were and still are playing in the Frome & district league, deciding it was time to move on from a club who were on a downward spiral. S Clark who was also on the Prestbury books also left at the same time.
Unknown to Jeff, another sunday league side Heytsbury athlethic, which Glasson had a two year spell with in the early nineties had just folded .The village side had moved back into Warminster, and resumed under their new sponsors The Cock Inn ,in 2000,but they soon disbanded,as the manager had left, and noone wanted to take on such duties. The Cock Inn had just purchased a new kit,and was still in good condition.when after a chance encounter between Glasson and The Cock Inn landlord,Glasson was given the kit. .The seeds then had been sown for a new era in Warminster Town football. The club had a manager,a kit and a choice of leagues, but no squad to build round

"From the beginning of 2001,i found it hard to get players interested, espically half way through a season, and the fact that everyone wants to join a winning team. Myself and Simon clarke arranged training sessions throughoutthe first six months of 2001,Players came and went, and we only had 6 intrested players by march. Stuart Green our number one goalkeeper,Martin Miller,Phil gatehouse,Ben Robertson,Ryan Dewey, and Richard Chalmers.it was a low time as things looked bleak."The summer time saw Rangers get affilated to the Wiltshire F. Voted into the Frome and district sunday league, and as a shortage of facilities in Warminster, had to play thier home gamesat Gypsy Lane fields in Frome.

Pre-season saw the squad rapidly grow, and for once the club were attracting some experianced players,a couple of Deverills boys Mark Davies and Mark Sprangle,Heytsbury's Ryan"stan"Dewey, Lee Fairclough,Nik Bonner, Mark Werner and Seb Williams made up the numbers.Pre-season friendlies against Prestbury united( now the clubs arch-rivals),and Blue Boar(now Three Swans F.C) saw them concede twenty goals, which made the run up to the first league game quite daunting. Then by chance Glasson recieved a phone-call from soldier Darren"dazbaz"Claypole,he had spotted a notice for players in the local chippie, and he had a few mates who might be interested, before Darren had finished his phone call Glasson had 5 new players, all played for a local army team, and all became key players of the 2001-2002 season. Brothers Steve and Mikee McConnel,Paul"catdog"Main,Lee Goodridge and Dazbaz himself.the following day the experienced Tim Lycett joined the squad.

Further friendlies before the season saw a much more organised side.but they lost to K&S eagles(from mere) 4-1 and lost 3-2 to Horningsham. The spirit was more upbeat, and confidence was at boiling point. and the wait for the first game of the season could not come any sooner.and what a cracker,Rangers losing to The Eagles 5-8,the return match in January saw Rangers beat them 7-5,again another cracker of a game.returning back to September ,Glassons outfit won thier first League game, against thier Arch rival Prestbury Utd 3-1,but could not record another win until the end of October beating Clutton 5-3( Now Railway Inn) ,and had to wait six weeks before another win, doing the double over Clutton,, 8-5,coming from behind with a hat-trick from Dave Wright in the last ten minutes.."Rangers also shocked everyone by beating Division one side Ring-o-bells in the Tony Whorlow memorial cup 1st round, Glasson himself grabbing the equaliser before full time, and Lee Fairclough grabbing the golden goal in extra time,.the 2nd rd saw them go 2-0 up against Premier side Warminster United services(now disbanded),but then were outclassed losing 7-3.Lee Cook,Alex Wood and Matt Willmott were further signings through the season. The Squad soon turned out some dazzling perfromances, and between the end of november-and febuary, they matched everyone, only losing by the odd one or two goals, then a blow, the soldiers were moving on and in febuary the heart and soul of the side were pulled out, leaving the remenants to run out the season, losing heavenly,Prestbury utd revenge was a 9-0 drubbing in march, and the club amassed a total of 103 conceded goals.however,by some almighty prayer,Rangers beat Promoted Guss&Crook 4-3 on the last match of the season.Ryan Dewey ended up top scocer with 14 goals in all compertitions
