Background
The Chalke Valley Football club was formed in 2002 as part of a sports initiative aimed at securing funding from Sports England, in order to build a community sports centre for the Chalke Valley.
The club was born out of an amalgamation of the three valley clubs that were in exsistence at the time; Bishopstone, Broadchalke and Ebbesbourne. After initial teething problems, which included half a season without proper changing rooms, the Sports Centre opened unofficially on Boxing Day 2002 and the club are now the envy of the Salisbury and District area.
Facilities are second to none in the area; huge changing rooms with 'en-suite' showers, proper changing and showering facilities for officials, a licensed bar with television and more than ample off-road parking. In fact ex-Saint, Nick Holmes, current manager of Salisbury City FC, commented when officially opening the centre, that many sides in Southern League Football would be pleased to have such facilities.
The club now have three sides- on a Saturday we have a Wilts league team and a side in the Salisbury & District League Division 2 and on Sunday our side play in Division One. We were also awarded Adult Charter Status by the English FA and are currently the only club in South Wiltshire so sanctioned.
All are welcome at the club with players ranging in age from 14 through to 40+. In fact Tuesday evenings sees 'Masters Football' taking place on the Multi User Games Area, where the elder statesmen of the valley compete for pride only - some say this is the only time proper football is on offer in the valley!!
We pride ourselves on being a family club and encourage everyone to get involved. Several of the wives have given up trying to make their men see sense and now pitch in by running the bar and making teas etc. - to them we are eternally grateful. We are also massively grateful to our sponsors; Growing Success,Selmec and Ocean Packaging without whom. without a doubt, we would struggle.
If you are interested in any aspect of the game feel free to come along, whether it be as a player, coach or spectator and we will always make you welcome. For more information contact Club Secretary Rich Nelson on 01722 780118.
