OI SAMBISTAS - DEVIZES SAMBA BAND

WELCOME! We are a band based in DEVIZES formed to serve the community, just as in Brasil samba is traditionally community based. We welcome all that want to play and dance with us. We are a friendly group incorporating people from all parts of the community who get together to make music and HAVE FUN! Fun is what is all about, our drummers age from 11 upwards and dancers are welcome from the age of 15. We meet every TUESDAY EVENING at Coral Cove, Hopton Industrial Estate, Devizes, and we regularly hold drumming and dance workshops. We are a performance band playing and dancing at local festivals, carnivals and charity events. The Samba rhythms we play are based on traditional Brazilian percussion rhythms, as can be heard every year at the world famous Rio Carnival in Brazil. Our history...Oi Sambistas Samba band was formed in 2002 following Devizes Carnival. Dave Buxton, a local historian and renowned carnival organiser, secured funding from the Awards For All scheme which enabled us to buy drums and costumes for our drummers and dancers, along with tuition.
