AGM 2007

The Annual General Meeting was held on 19 January 2007 in the Jubilee Building, Market Place, Chippenham.

There was a unanimous vote for the existing office bearers and committee members to continue in post for a further year.

Treasurer - Jennifer Rudd
Committee Members – Liz Moulder Vicky Welsh.
The Treasurer reported that we have a healthy financial situation, and thanked Virginia Mundin for the work she did as Walk in the Park Treasurer in 2006.
The Chairman reported on a very active year, with events such as Walk in the Park, Open Garden and North Wiltshire Festival.

March Meeting

Speaker - Mr Les James
Prior to the main meeting the committee met to finalise the proposed Newsletter, edited by Liz Moulder. We hope to have this sent out by Diabetes UK as a mail shot to all members in our area as a reminder that we are here and active and to welcome them to attend our meetings.

Members were advised of a Charity Fair event at the Neeld Hall on 16th March and the Lions Club Charity table top sale on Easter Saturday 7 April also in Neeld Hall.

Future events notified were the Store Collection at Morrisons, Chippenham store on Saturday 23 June. Walk in the Park will be on Sunday 8 July at Lackham – registration and sponsorship forms are available. The Diabetes UK conference will take place in Nottingham 13-14 October and the Chairman and Secretary will attend, reporting back to members at the November meeting.

St Peter’s Church Ladies Guild made a donation of £70 to Diabetes UK.
The speaker who was to have been Penny Kinson from the “Face Forward” charity that works with facially disfigured people in Sri Lanka, unfortunately could not attend due to family bereavement. Les James kindly stepped in at short notice and gave his talk on “Sleep Apnoea”. Penny will now attend in November.

May Meeting

Members were advised of the Store Collection in Morrison's supermarket Chippenham to take place on 23 June
Walk in the Park at Wiltshire College on 8 July will be started by the Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Mrs Sandra Oakes.
Our speakers for the evening were Dee Robinson and Christine Kitchen from the Department of Community Services of Wiltshire County Council - they explained the adult care system

July Meeting

Dave gave a Diabetes Awareness talk to the Chippenham Hey Day Club on 7th June which was well received. The Hey Day Club presented Dave with a cheque for £25 as a donation to Diabetes UK.

Members did a store collection at Morrisons Chippenham on Saturday 23rd June and raised £383.51p Thank you to the volunteers who gave their time.

We received donations from:

NWDC Riverside Café – their collection tin contained £13.71.
Nancy Milne-Day at Moonrakers Farm, Gastard returned a tin containing £57.36

We have donated some books for newly diagnosed Type 1, Type 2 and children to Becky Nute – Diabetes Specialist Nurse for use in her clinics.

The secretary also gave a preliminary report on the Walk in the Part which took place on Sunday 8th July - see walk page for details and photographs.

Our speaker for the evening was Mary Pennell, returned by popular demand. Her discussion topic this evening was - "Shall I have another one?" Decision making in diabetes. We covered the day to day life decisions we have to make regarding control of our diabetes and Mary offered a simple but effective tool to assist in decision making. Mary is a lecturer at Kings College London.

September Meeting

Walk in the Park Sponsorship

We have received £2,154.60 in sponsorship money so far, but we do have a list of 16 people who have not yet paid, so will be sending follow-up letters.


Awareness talk

Dave will be doing a talk on Diabetes to the Carer’s Association at Devizes on 3rd October.



Conference

Chair and Secretary will be attending Annual Conference in Nottingham on 13/14 October and will report on the event at the November meeting.



Insulin Pens Trial

The Woolfson Centre at the RUH has been in touch regarding a “Buyers Guide” for pen users – they would like some help with a survey. Steve Wilson of the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering sent some flyers along as he could not make our meeting. Any interested pen users contact us for a leaflet

November Meeting

The Secretary reported that a total of £2,477.10 sponsorship from Walk in the Park had been forwarded to Central Office.
Next years event will take place on 6th July and will once again be held at Wiltshire College Lackham.
During October the Chairman gave a Diabetes Awareness talk to members of the Kennet Carer's Association at Devizes Health Centre.
The Chair and Secretary attended the Volunteering 2007 Conference at Nottingham on 13/14 October and reported on the event during the meeting this evening.
Best Wishes were sent to Beryl Cooper who is very ill, and offers of support to John her husband

Speaker

Tonight's speaker was Penny Kinson who came to tell us about her Charity "Face Forward" an organisation which helps children with facial deformity in Sri Lanka.
