'Pictures and Words' Art Project
 | Doorway recently held a series of workshops for guests entitled "Pictures and Words" funded by the Anchor Trust and North Wiltshire District Council
The project aimed to help guests at Doorway explore and express their thoughts and feelings using photography, collage and creative writing. The resulting exhibition comprises of 3 free-standing panels displaying CD cases, each holding an individual artwork created during weekly workshops with local artist Julia Warin from ArtSpark.
Our aim is to help homeless and socially excluded adults to move on in their lives. The aim of ‘Pictures and Words’, which involved 17 of our guests, was to teach them new skills and help them move on in their lives. Many of them have complex problems as well as being homeless and we saw clear signs of improved self-confidence in those who took part.
The display was unveiled at North Wiltshire District Council Offices, Monkton Park in July, by Councillors Judy Rooke and Desna Allen; attended by Julia Warin, ArtSpark; Captain Mary Wolfe, The Salvation Army; Margaret Cleverley, Doorway Project Manager; and Ben, Julian and Liz, Doorway Guests.
