Nomads caravan fill thier stockings for new year
 | fC ST GEORGES final game of 2007 should have capped a great year for Player Managers Glassons side who have undoubtly surprised most people with thier surge up the table. Nomads Manager PAUL TARRANT was quickly to praise the Veteran Welshman " For such a small man he takes alot of abuse, i would have jacked it in if my lads give me that amount of verbal,But on the footballing he has created a good side and sundays game could have gone either way". This was Fc St Georges third defeat on the trot and any hope of automatic promotion slipped away after Nomads netted a third against the run of play. Both sides graced Fortress St Georges fielding under strenght sides, Manager Glasson made his first start for six weeks and john green started and finished a rare match.
Fc took the lead on 14 minutes when the ever impressive Mike wallis slipped past Dave Southgate and fed the ball into his strike partner Mark payne who made no mistake from around a yard out. Nomads had a couple of half chances, before equalising on 39 minutes. Nomads Jamie Gulliford found Paul Eastwood in the penalty box and the Nomads winger was adjudged to have been impeded by Martin Read, referee Graham Wilkin pointing to the penalty spot. Kev Page stepped up and blasted his spot kick far into the corner past Stu Green. St. George then had a goal harshly disallowed when Tucker was adjudged to have been fouled when spilling a Martin Read free kick. A shot from Wallis also smashed the upright on the stroke of half time.
Nomads took a surprise lead on 48 minutes. Paul Tarrant's pass from defence found Gulliford with Mark Self watching him closely. Gulliford worked his way past the centre back and easily fired past the poorly positioned Green. After that, FC St. George started to dominate. Payne headed straight at Tucker and also guided another headed effort just wide. The prolific striker then made his second assist of the game to get his side back on level terms - another low cross for Wallis to tuck in from close range. Nomads clearly hadn't read the script as they re-took the lead with 19 minutes to go, a goal out of nowhere. Page picked up the ball from some 30 yards out and smashed an effort into the top corner past the stunned home keeper, his second of the game. Green then made amends by blocking Nath Witcombe and Gulliford from close range as well as just reaching a Gulliford lob, FC's best chances fell to Payne who twice rounded Tucker but was thwarted by an excellent Southgate interception and on the other ran the ball out of play. Thanks to Nomads' makeshift backline performing miracles and Craig Maidment's holding up play in attack, the three points were safely in the bag.
