OH YES IT WS THIRD TIME LUCKY!!!
 | NORTON NOMADS 0 - 4 FC ST GEORGE
The Blocks are off as Glassons side sets its course for promotion push once again , It may be the slightest chance of happening, but Fc St George tore NORTON Nomads apart in 45 minutes of pure football.. For the second week running the Warminster Sunday side came home with three more valuable points and another 0-4 win. Two Goals from man of the match Rory Kelly and Another two for prolific striker Mike Payne demoralized a poor Norton Nomads side. This Was third time lucky for Glasson’s outfit as they lost both a home league game and a qtr final Division two cup game in back to back games in December.. Player boss Glasson was forced to make one change to the Fc St George side that beat Sureset Rangers last week, Mark Self re-inventing himself as a left winger in the absence of the injured Martin Read. With only a bare twelve his depleted side have started to believe in themselves and with the likes of Chris Ayres, Mark Davies, Martin Read and Sean Holton all out for one reason of another, it will hard to see how they will find a place in the team on their current form. With the possibility of 18 more points this season before this game , Fc St George promotion wagon is rolling once again.
The writing was on the wall I the third minute when Mark Wallis returned a Norton Goal kick back into the box and Stuart Green early effort was smothered by the alert keeper , after this Nomads were besieged . Simon Clark barged his way through into the box before powering a inviting ball into the box, the keeper having to to dive at the feet of Mikey Payne who was poised. Nomads had opted to face the wind in the first half and use it to their benefit in the second, But were outplayed and outclassed throughout the game. Man of the match Midfield instrumentalist Rory Kelly inswinging corners were always a threat in the swirling wind, and after a handful of early attempts he found his range, his first far post corner did go over the line but Referee john O’Brian did not see and it was cleared away. Dismayed Kelly however did succeed on his second attempt. Right back lee Kennedy who was celebrating his birthday along with Goalkeeper Herik da Silva found room down the right flank cross but was fouled. Skipper Matt Crucifix free kick paniced the nomads in the box and they conceded a needless corner . Up stepped Kelly and his curling shot flew sweetly in off the far post to take the lead. Five minutes later the visitors lead was doubled. A cross field ball by left wing Mark Self found Simon Clark who took the ball to the byline before sending in another inviting ball. Payne was quicker to the ball and his close range shot bounced off the keeper into the path of Kelly who could not miss from two yards out. It was all one way as Nomads could not get through the back four of lee Kennedy ,Skipper Matt Crucifix , Nigel chantly and Glasson . The saints third came from Another good build up. Skipper Matt Crucifix defensive header was controlled by Kelly who fed Mark Wallis, his timed run into the box caught Nomads offguard and he picked out Mikey Payne for his 26th of the season. Nomads did finally break and they won two corners, both to the near post. Chantley headed the first one back out and the second corner looked to be going in but Goalkeeper Da Silva picked it out the air. After sending the ball back into the nomads own half he settled back into his deckchair and watched as his side produced more flowing football and a fourth goal. Kennedy again was fouled as he weaved forward, This time it was centre back Nigel Chantley free kick that done the damage, Mikey Payne getting the slightest of touches to send the ball past everyone and into the net. There was a debate weather Mark Self had got a last touch but he declined the offer and gave Mikey Payne his 27th of the season. It seemed like open season at Ston Easton with Wallis, Green and Glasson going close. The second half was less eventful, Nomads got some composure and tried to use the wind and three up front to get back into the game, but when they did break they were matched by a determined defence , Nomads closest attempts coming down their right flank but two timely interventions in the box by Glasson foiled any chances. At the other end Fc had a few more chances with the Mikey PAYNE Heading wide from a corner and Mark Wallis shooting wide. Simon Clark was replaced by John Green and the visitors pegged the nomads back in their own half. Final score 0-4 |
