Blown away in a second half breeze
 | FC ST GEORGE Reclaimed their third spot after thrashing Paulton Rovers 1-4 away at Norton hill fields. Their RADSTOCK hosts had grabbed a point at St Georges last week to overtake the saints Third spot which had been theirs all season, with Leaders The Weaver and Three Swans all ready promoted. Paulton Rovers had gone ahead on ten minutes when Fc St George conceded a penalty. But the home side were facing a side who were really playing a cup final games as a loss would have taken third spot out of reach. Player boss Glasson made three forced changes to the side that drew last week. Striker Mark Wallis injured in training was replaced by Sean Holton .Simon Clark filled in the vacant right wing and Martin Read came in for Polishman Daruis Snedzik. , The bench was light with Stuart green back from his 35 day ban sitting alongside SNEDZIK. The Homeside took first half advantage of the sloping pitch and had the edge for the first ten minutes their long goal kicks bouncing dangerously just outside Fcs box. Paulton tempo was fast and their football was good to watch , but when they got sight of goal they were met by a stonewalled defence and a Keeper on a mission to erase his clanger from last week. Da Silva however could do nothing with the penalty kick, Paultons striker going down in between Chantly and Crucifix as they crowded him out.0-1. Fc st Georges response was immiediat, Martin Reads left footed shot hitting the side netting, Both sides then had a collection of corners which were dealt superbly with. defending in the first half was first class and worthy of a better league.and the game panned out into a nice game of football between Two highly charged and evenly matched teams. Paulton looked for another goal and they continued to pepper the visitors box but with out reward, Da Silva getting down to one effort and palming out another. The warminster side thought they had scored on 40 minutes when they breached the Paultons stretched defence, Mikey Payne latching on to Chris Ayres pass. Paynes shot was tapped in by Holton who was deemed to be offside. Lee kennedy and Glasson both had long shots off corners that sailed over the Paultons Bar. Martin Read Payne and Holton had half chances , Payne then was beaten by the half time whistle as he broke free of his marker.
The second half advantage fell to Glassons side, and they as the scoreline reads used it well. Straight from kick off Chris Ayres forced himself forward and tested the keeper. Paulton seemed nervous and were pegged back as they soaked up the pressure. Mikey Payne and Sean Holton threathened with evry jinxing run and on 50 minutes Fc grabbed a a clinical goal. That leveled the game and initaily turned the match. The Saints Portuguese import Da Silva threw the ball out left to Martin Read and threaded the ball down the line to Mikey Payne, Mikey then saw his Gaffa in acres of space, and the welsh veteran pierced the defence with a def pass to Rory Kelly who slotted home. 1-1(oh for sky sports cameras) Paulton then were giving a roasting by their player manager , while Glasson made his first change. Simon Clark came off for Stuart Green. Paulton frustrations and nerves began to show and Fc clocked up their second goal , Mikey Payne volleying home from chris Ayres free kick on 65 minutes. 1-2. It was all Fc for the next twenty minutes, Paulton had made changes and went all out attack leaving a weak backline ,but were short of ideas and were always closed down by the back four off Lee Kennedy Nigel chantly ,Skipper Natt Crucifix and the gaffa Glasson . Fc st George then grabbed a third on 77 minutes , another assist from a Ayrs free kick found holton in the box who tapped it out to the right flank to prolific scorer Mikey Payne who crossed in to Martin Read with the easiest of his four goals this season. And add more woe to the homeside Mikey Payne Grabbed a spctactular 33rd goal of the season when lobbed the keeper from the right hand touchline. (where were those sky cameras). 1-4. Sean Holton then was replaced ny Daruis Snedzik as Glasson chose to tighten up midfield. Final score 1-4 yeeeeeeeah
