Gynae C - supporting women with gynaecological cancer.

Gynae C aims to support women with any form of gynaecological cancer, their partner, family and friends at an obvious crisis point in their lives.

We offer confidential, emotional support via a telephone help-line, E-mail, letter and now a Web Site to all contacts.

We supply information about other related groups and organisations when appropriate.
Our support is offered free of charge to any contacts, but we do welcome voluntary donations as we are not grant maintained in any way at present. We fund ourselves mainly through local events and voluntary donations from our supporters.

We do not offer medical advice, though we do recommend contacts see their GP, Consultant or relevent person for such information or contact CancerBACUP for comprehensive written information about specific cancers, treatments etc.

I have created a new website for Gynae C - this has been done to allow us to put on direct links more successfully and have our fundraising sales listed properly.

This website will be kept as it has the option for entering messages into the Guest book and on to the message board - I will monitor it regularly.
Please contact us with any comments!

Reduce the Age for Cervical Smear Tests

Gynae C has always promoted the importance of Cervical Smears as being key in detecting early signs of cervical cancer thereby making this so much more easily and effectively treated.
When caught at its early stages, this is very much a treatable cancer.
Gynae C has always believed that once a female is sexually active she should have the right to receive a regular smear test on the NHS. There is an ongoing campaign to reduce the age at which women are invited for their smear tests.
I would encourage you to join this campaign and add your voice to the growing numbers of people asking government to implement this as soon as possible.
If you email us we can print off your support to add to our growing file which will be sent to the Health Minister at the end of August this year (2009). Or you can write to or email your local MP. They do take notice of constituents comments and issues.
Women can elect to have a private smear test, but there is a cost involved in this, and not everyone can afford to go down this route.
Please contact us if you have any concerns.
Thank you.
Helen Jackson, Co-ordinator, Gynae C.
