Training For Life

Training for Life aims to provide education, training and personal development opportunities for people who have a disability aged 18 plus, within Swindon, Kennet and North Wiltshire.

Our Objectives are to:

1 Encourage life long learning.
2 Reconsider attitudes and resistance to change.
3 Create a supportive environment to adopt change.
4 Enable each individual to grow in a holistic way.


As a member of Training for Life you can participate in a
variety of activities that promote choice, control and equality.

Training For Life Timetable Consists Of:


MONDAY

Exercise for Healthy Living [Tai Chi]

Course duration - April 2005 - July 2005
10.15a.m. - 11.45 a.m.

Tutor - Graham Pritchard [Health Hydro]

This is a practical course designed to teach the sequence of gentle flowing movements. The basics are easy to learn and the health benefits include increased flexibility, muscle strength, correct posture and a sense of well being.

Improving your Personal Development Skills

Communication Skills & Presentation Skills
Course duration - April 2005 - July 2005
1.30p.m. - 3.30p.m. Delivered by Bath University
Tutor - Alan MacGregor

Use effective techniques to improve your communication and presentation skills. The aims of this course include, improve inter-personal communication skills, understand behavioural skills of communication, learn different techniques of communication and presentation. Members can join at any time. Also, previous attendance/knowledge is not required.

Using Numbers in Everyday Life
Course duration - April 2005 - July 2005

Cognitive Behaviour & Stress Management
Course duration 3rd May 2005 – 19th July 2005

When we are exposed to a particular trauma or life event our thought process can be triggered in a negative way, sometimes to the detriment of our behaviour. This course will look at addressing negative assumptions and reducing them through using cognitive behaviour. Enrolment throughout the term.

The Benefits of Self Hypnosis to Empower Yourself
Course Duration 3rd May 2005 – 19th July 2005

The aims of the course are to teach individuals to be more positive about themselves, to help them understand how they can take more control of how they feel about themselves and how they interact with other people.
Subjects that can be covered are poor sleep patterns, stress, controlling pain, weight issues, panic attacks, smoking, confidence building , depression and many more


Adult Literacy - Tutor Jean Rigby Swindon College

Course Duration September 9th 2003 - July 2005 1.30pm - 4.00 pm
Members are required to complete a pre-entry assessment and are entered on the appropriate adult literacy programme i.e. up to G.C.S.E. English Language. Enrolment throughout.

Wednesday

Learning to Live

Course duration September 2004 – July 2005
10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. [ first session]
1.30 p.m. – 3.30 p.m. [ second session ]

Tutor – Alan MacGregor

Modular course of 10 weeks, on how you can improve your relating skills through understanding some of the key processes and behaviours in engaging with others.
Modules will include; Power and Relationships, How to Intervene Effectively with Others, Managing your Relationship, Keeping Depression At Bay, Understanding Childhood Influences, Working with Difficult People and putting it together and applying it to your life. Enrolment throughout the year.

Each module is self-contained i.e. previous attendance/knowledge is not required. Learners are invited to attend one session only i.e. morning or afternoon session. Enrolment throughout the year

Introduction to I.T. for Beginners,
Course duration April 2005 – July 2005
10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.

An introductory course ideal for complete beginners and for those who lack confidence and want to learn in a friendly environment. Individual learners will have one to one support from a Volunteer Tutor. Learners can also progress onto a N.V.Q. in I.T. level 1. Enrolment throughout the year.

Learning To Relax With Arts & Crafts
Course duration October 2004 – July 2005
2.00 pm.- 4.00 p.m.
Second term starts from 12th January 2005
Tutor – Anne Radu

This course will explore a variety of therapeutic learning from oil painting, craft work to textile work. This course aims to reduce stress levels & increase a sense of well being. Learn at your own pace. Enrolment throughout the year. We welcome all ranges of ability.

Relaxation Techniques for Stress Management

Thursday 10.30 am to 12.30 pm:

Advanced Personal Development. As a natural progression from the introductory work. Find out how to adapt your insight talent and natural skills to give you the life that you want. Work on individual problems in a nurturing atmosphere and with the support of a group of like minded people.

Topics Include:
Reiki Level Two, Shamanic practice, Dowsing, Heal your life workshop, Alexander Technique, Learn the secret language of your face, Neural Linguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, Dreamwork Psycho-drama workshop and many more.


Thursday 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm:

Introduction to Relaxation. Methods and life enhancing practices. This course is designed to give a basic insight into various self development practices. Informative, constructive with tasks and outcomes to suit individual needs.

Topics include:

Reiki healing, Hypnotherapy, Aromatherapy, Crystal Healing, Body Language, Personality typing, Dream Workshop, Healing the body with the mind.

Communication Skills [written & verbal] - Swindon College
Course duration September 2004 - July 2005
130 p.m. – 4.00 p.m.
Second term starts 13th January 2005
Tutor – Jean Rigby

Learners follow appropriate written and spoken communication programmes, agreed with the tutor. All levels are welcome up to GCSE English standard. City & Guilds qualifications taken as requested.
