Why are we linked with Troisgots?
Robert de Tregoz, Sheriff of Wiltshire in 1191, held the estate of South Lydiard. Robert was descended from William de Tregoz, Lord of the Manor of Tregoz in Normandy. The name Tregoz eventually became Troisgots. The historic church at Troisgots, La Chapelle sur Vire, contains an inscription to Robert de Tregoz; a similar inscription can be found in St. Mary's Church, Lydiard Tregoze. Thus our French "twins" have a historical link with our villages going back over 800 years. |
