Founded 1963
The club was formed in 1963 and a site acquired at Coate Water Country Park. The original track was raised and included 3 ½” and 5” gauge rail, being a small oval about 200 feet in length. After about five years a bigger track was laid at ground level on gravel, this was eventually re-laid on concrete and fixed to it.
In 1980 the 3-½” track was removed and 7 ¼” rail added, two tracks were added to the station area with a motorised point to direct the trains into either platform. After this came a big extension, with a lot of help from the local council.
A clubhouse was started in 1983 and officially opened in 1984 with water and electricity laid on, up until this time all water; coal and coaches were hauled to the site for every running day. To complete the clubhouse, a club loco (Nigel Gresley) was sold to a member.Further extension of the track continued to include a bridge and several more points plus a brick built signal box. A steaming bay was constructed in front of the signal box, which allows access to the underside of locos and rolling stock. The last piece of construction has been the addition of a coach shed with four tracks inside. |
