A CELEBRATION OF DICKENS IN CORSHAM
CORSHAM FESTIVAL On Saturday 24th June 2006 an event to excite lovers of Dickens everywhere is due to take place in the historic town of Corsham, nestling at the foot of the Cotswolds, in rural Wiltshire. Pickwick Theatre Company will celebrate the link between Charles Dickens and this delightful small town, which was one of his favourite stopping off places.
Dramatised extracts from Dickens first and most famous novel, The Pickwick Papers, will be enacted at locations around Corsham High Street and in the gardens of Corsham Court. A highlight of the day will be an Olde English style lunch to launch the celebrations, to be held at the Flemish Weaver, a delightful old hostelry next door to the Town Hall.
Mr Charles Dickens himself will address the assembled company and will get the festivities underway. You will witness the launch of the Corresponding Society of the Pickwick Club, which set Mr Pickwick and friends off on their many adventures. You will be present as strolling players promenade amongst picturesque stone buildings and amuse you with melodramatic renditions of famous scenes, such as Mrs Leo Hunters Garden Party, The Picnic and various other of the Pickwickian’s hazard strewn mis-adventures.
Mr Pickwick is coming to Corsham, don’t miss it.
Celebration lunch will be served in The Flemish Weaver... | |
