Conferences and Re-unions
On this page we will record our attendance at National and Area Conference events |
Area AGM and Re-union
 | The Area AGM and re-union weekend took place at The Park Inn Hotel at Telford over the weekend of 14-16 March. Several of our members attended the Re-union and we met up with old friends from Bath and Melksham Branches. The Chair proposed a resolution to the AGM which was carried and will now go forward to National Conference in Blackpool. This is to do with CHQ working at national level to contact large companies to support Wings collections at their premises. The Standard Bearer entered the Area Competition and was commended for turn out and drill. Unfortunately due to the very wet weather across the UK the competition was held indoors and great care had to be taken to avoid the ceiling, lighting and other obstacles around the room, including supporters and judges. |

National Conference
National Conference takes place in Blackpool Winter Gardens during the weekend 16 -18 May |
Conference 2008
Conference delegate, Pat Mosdall presented three resolutions to conference on behalf of the Corsham & Chippenham Branch. All three relate to Wings appeal.
Resolution 1. Large charities negotiate at a CEO level with companies which have branches countrywide and get preferential treatment when requesting time and space on their premises for their campaigns. Royal Air Force Association Branches therefore operate at a disadvantage when compared to other charities, having an insufficiently high profile at branch level to negotiate with corporate entities.
We resolve that Senior Council Members, having the necessary high profile, should negotiate with the boards of companies such as Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Homebase, B & Q, etc, to allow branches the Royal Air Force Association to collect countrywide on their premises for the Wings Appeal.
The Chairman and Central Council wholeheartedly supported this resolution and it was carried unanimously CARRIED
Resolution 2. The “Wings” paper tokens we provide last only minutes, are not very visible and therefore do not raise the profile of our very worthy cause to the level that is recognized by for instance, the poppy. The Royal Air Force Association should provide a token which will have a better image than the current paper tokens and last longer thus raising our profile, the trivial cost being outweighed by the improved response expected.
Note:- I am advised that the British Legion poppies cost 1/3rd of one penny each, which means that the smallest single coin that can be donated will still raise a profit.
The new Director of Wings, Sharon Needham was instructed by Central Council to investigate and respond by 2009 conference. CARRIED
Resolution 3. We support all RAF and commonwealth personnel including those who have been involved in modern conflicts and the Wings publicity material doesn’t reflect this
We should ensure that the Wings publicity material includes images of modern conflicts and equipment as well as World War 2.
New Director of Wings – Sharon Needham was directed by Central Council to review for 2009. CARRIED
A good result
