RODBOURNE COMMUNITY HISTORY GROUP
 | We are a group of mainly local residents who meet at Even Swindon Community Centre, Jennings Street, Rodbourne, Swindon, 7pm to 9pm on the last Wednesday of each month. We run a membership which raises much needed funds as we are self funding. A years Full Membership is £10 per person or £15 for a couple and a years Single Associate Membership is £5. Members receive free copies of our quarterly newsletter the 'Brick Wall'. Our aim is to make all the information we collate available to the public via the World Wide Web, talks to various groups schools and through exhibitions. Since the formation of the group 3 years ago we have had two very successful exhibitions which attracted some 1100 people. Present and past residents have donated hundreds of photos and through the members spending many hours in reference libraries and record centres we have a extensive information on the area.If you would like further information please contact us via the "Mail Form". Why not use the "Message Board" to contact old Rodbournites or relate your memories of Rodbourne. Signing in the "Guest Book" would also help us to find out who is visiting our site.

OUR FIRST BOOK:- "WALK DOWN THE LANE"
 | At last we have completed our first book "Walk Down the Lane". This is a 32 page booklet taking a journey down Rodbourne Road, better known to the locals as "The Lane".
Illustrated with plans, maps and old photos and more importantly packed with Rodbournite's memories of the shops, shopkeepers and local characters. It's a must for Rodbournites past and present but you don't have to have lived in Rodbourne to enjoy it.

Please Note:- As a not for profit Group all profits from the sale of the book are plowed back into buying equipment and funding exhibitions and community education projects.

Hot News
As from the 30th January 2008 we are moving our meetings to 7pm - 9pm in the evening. Hopefully this will cater for those who work in the day and couldn't attend our daytime meetings. The venue will be the same i.e. The Even Swindon Community Centre, Jennings Street, Rodbourne. |
Tale of Two Schools
 | Our second book has just been released. This is to commemorate the closure of the two schools in Rodbourne. Namely Jennings Street School which closed in 1987 and Even Swindon old school building which closed in 2007 and moved to it's brand new premises.80 pages packed with photos, log book entries and personal memories from ex staff and pupils from both schools.

Want to walk round Rodbourne from your chair and find the history of places of interest?
Then just click Rodbourne Trail under Contents on the left and follow the instructions. In fact if you want to get out of your chair and do it for real then from 2009 we will be issuing information packs to anyone who wants to follow the Trail.
