Lighting up their life

A child’s first year at school is arguably their most important. At St Mary’ s, our Reception class is known as Rainbow Room. Why? Because a riot of colours and activities await the new pupils, welcoming them into an environment that is both warm and instructive. Here, learning is play and play, learning. “The skilled Reception teachers make learning mathematics fun,” wrote the Ofsted inspectors in their last report, before going on: “Very good provision is made to encourage the children’s personal, social and emotional development and almost all children exceed these goals.”
