Jon Lewis
 | Jon Lewis playing for England 'A' against Barbados in January 2001.
Jon first played for the Club at the age of 12 in 1988, when he had the unusual experience of getting an lbw decision which the (opposition) umpire then reversed when the batsman claimed he had hit the ball. He kept his temper then rather better than his captain did, a good indication of the control and discipline that has marked his career so far. He made rapid progress as both a batsman and a bowler and was picked for the Wiltshire county side when 17 years old. Then he got a contract with Northants, but unfortunately a back injury there meant they released him at the end of the 1994 season.
He spent the early part of the 1995 season playing for Swindon again recovering his fitness and form, which he did with such success that by the end of the year he had broken into the Gloucestershire side after a handful of games with their second eleven. Since then he has gone on to take over 250 first class wickets and win England 'A' selection for the 2000/2001 trip to the West Indies. Gloucestershire allow Jon to play for the Club whenever he is fit enough and they do not have a game. Last year he was able to play in one of the Western League games, as he also did in the previous season. |

Kevin Emery
Or Kevin StJohn Dennis Emery to give 'The King' his full title. The current Club Captain started at the Club as a junior more years ago than he cares to remember, brought along by his father, who was himself a Club member for many years and a good cricketer.
Kevin left both the Swindon Club and the town when he moved on to further education after school. He had started as a very promising off-spinner - an early highlight was finishing third in a competition run by The Sun newspaper to find the next up and coming England spin bowler.
Even more impressive was his achievement in being selected for the England Schoolboys Under-19 side for three successive years, starting when he was just fifteen. However he then switched to pace bowling and after finishing University won himself a contract with Hampshire, where he found himself opening the bowling with Malcolm Marshall. He had a sensational season in 1982, taking 83 first class wickets including 4-40 for England 'B'. He was touted for the England touring squad but just missed out on selection, with Robin Jackman getting the nod in his place.
Unfortunately injuries then finished his first class career and he never managed another full season at the top level. He went on to play club cricket at the highest level in Bath and Bristol and whilst at Optimists lifted the National Club Knock-Out Trophy with his side - ironically after steering the Bristol side to a win in a very tight League fixture against Swindon the day before.
Over the years he maintained his links with Swindon via his family and in 1999 he was persuaded to come back and help his old Club by grooming the young players coming through into a side the town could be proud of. |
