Alan Cock
When younger a legend in his own lunchtime, but Alan is now a 24 year old fitness fanatic. This year's Sunday firsts captain always gives 100 per cent and will not prepared to accept any less from his team. In his schooldays was a key member of a very successful Oakfields side. A very useful all-rounder, who last year played several valuable innings as well as chipping in with some tidy spells of left-arm seam. Has been getting a few spinning tips during the pre-season nets from Nigel Bellamy and could well decide to revert to spin in some of his Sunday games this year, particularly if he has been celebrating heavily on Sunday night.
For a photo of the younger Alan Cock scan down this page just past the Clint Mitchell story - but viewers of a sensitive nature should stop and think before doing so. |
Adrian Brabazon
Brabz is still the only player ever in the history of the Wiltshire League to take ten wickets in an innings, which he did as an eighteen year old back in 1990. His cricketing career since then has been spasmodic, due mainly to his academic aspirations (he decided to start a career as an allegedly 'mature student' in his early twenties). Now back in harness at the Club where it all started and keen to play a full season if his hamstrings can stand the pace. He is a left arm seamer who can bowl with genuine pace when fit and is rightly famed for his 'slower ball', which Nodger will (loudly) pick from third man. Batting limited but will talk all night about his match winning knock against Bristol West Indians in the 2000 season which helpd secure the second eleven's league title. |
Kevin Thompson
Undoubtedly the best bat, most cunning slow bowler and quickest fielder seen at the Club for the past two decades. And of course the best looking bloke in Swindon*. The 2001 season will once again find Kevin leading the Saturday fourth eleven and Sunday seconds. Suffers from painful shoulder and ear stress injuries after spending many hours on the telephone every summer evening and weekend morning.

Ian Richardson
"Richo" decided on a year off between school and University and jetted across to Fremantle for their 2000/2001 season to see what a good English boy could show the Aussies. He enjoyed himself so much that for a while we thought he might not come back but we were delighted to see him return in good time for the start of the 2000 season. Last year the then 18 year old Ian was the leading wicket taker for the Swindon first eleven and during the winter he picked up the Bowler of the Year award for Fremantle's fourth grade side. Their restrictions on overseas players limited his chances in the higher sides but even the fourth grade there is a reasonable standard. Richo - if you buy me a pint each week I promise never to use that school photo! |
Blaine Norridge
For most of his career at the Club Nodger was used as a workhorse, bowling over after over of nagging medium pace. However since taking over as second eleven captain has had a side full of seamers and has been content to skipper the side, chipping in with runs and /or wickets when needed. Never short of an appropriate word or two, and usually delivers them at full blast. Now also responsible for adding up the Club's money (which won't take long) and paying the bills. |
Matthew Godwin
Hasn't played a full season's cricket at Swindon ever as far as I can remember as he has managed to find a variety of different ways to spend large parts of the summer away from Swindon. Three years at University were interposed with a year spent in Germany and followed by another year in Australia as Matty refined his drinking skills. Not to be challenged at the bar but also a sound batsman and a superb fielder who has volunteered to supervise the senior nets on Wednesday nights this year. |
Mohammed Zohaib
Zohaib (or "Mozo") moved to Swindon near the end of the 2000 season, joining his brother Sohail in the town. A freakish off spinner who is likely to be a matchwinner on his day - or at least we hope so! Also a thunderous batsman not popular with net bowlers who have to "go fetch" after most deliveries. Not likely to be asked to drive to many games after doing a good Schumacher impression when taking a carload to nets in Cheltenham. This is a unique picture of Mozo, who is usually grinning from ear to ear. |
Ben Hathaway
Very promising young Under-16 all-rounder who has somehow managed to avoid Wiltshire recognition at any level so far. Like most left handers his batting is delightful when in full flow. Capable of scoring his first hundred this year, having already scored a number of fifties. Usually used as a change bowler last year but looks to have gained a yard of pace over the winter. Hair colouring varies; perhaps he should ask for the "Colin Miller" next time. |
