Swindon Civil Service v Biddestone 07/07/01 Wilts League Div 2

SUPER SERVICE GET EVEN WITH BIDDESTONE

After last weeks win at Highworth we entertained Biddestone and got our own back for the mauling we sufferedd in the first match of the season.Against accurate bowling we were rolled out for only 157 but bowled Biddestone out for only 98.

I don't have the scorebook and can't remember all the details...however we did get 22 points and should now be pushing Bedwyn for 3rd place !!!

Team...Giddings Smith Money Hayward Welch Meale Spackman Mildenhall Mabberley Derous and Dickinson

11th August Bradford on Avon (away)

The season's tightest finish to date saw Service leave the picturesque town of Bradford on Avon disappointed. A number of fingers have been pointed as to where blame for the last ball defeat lies, yet really it seems the Swindon boys were just not up to the task on this day.

A slow start lead by money (10 runs from 18 overs) was compensated for by a fine innings from Cunningham. His 61 was made in good time whilst the rest of the team scratched around him. A total of 173 however looked to be good one on a wicket that was far from easy to bat on.

Bradford however got off to a good start, in contrast to Deroux who was pinged for six off his first delivery. Bradford looked to be cruising needing only 40 off the last 13 overs with 5 wickets in hand. However a run out soon saw them on the backfoot again as Mabberley and Dickinson struggled to bring Service back into the game. Unfortunately Dickinson was tonked for 6 in the penultimate over leaving Mabberley only a few runs to play with. He bowled well, but in the end it wasn't good enough and Service slip to their second defeat in a row.

Please read the fantasy cricket reports for more upbeat news, particularly the form of Welch.

Serice Stuff Minety

In a tempestuous match last Saturday Service again showed their ability to dig deep as they toppled league leaders Minety. This was largely down to a fantastic opening partnership of 99 between Money and Smith. Smith made 47 before being removed, but Money continued to battle on whilst others flayed the bat around him. Unfortunately none of the other batsmen in the top order made much impression in the scorebook so it was left to Mabberley and Mildenhall to put on some important last runs. Minety got off to a flying start with their overseas player helping himself to runs aplenty and putting on 60 in about 8 overs. However crafty captaincy from Giddings saw Service subdue the player by keeping him off strike and in Minety's side there wasa distinct lack of support. In the end they struggled to 120 in reply to our 183 so another 20 points or so to the service.
