This sport looks ideal for young people with diabetes.
Racing takes place on small initimate circuits where guardians can remain close at hand to supervise and cope with any emergencies.
The sport owes its origins to the World War II when cyclists raced in and around bomb craters.
The 2001 WORLD CHAMPION is a Leicester club member and the 1999 WORLD CHAMPION and other 2001 world championship contenders race with Swindon. Other British clubs also have World Championship riders, if the clubs let me know which credit will be given!
The youngest age category is Under 8 with no minimum found in the regulations by the author, although participation is subject to to an overriding rule/consideration of safety.
Established clubs carry spare kit for those who want to come and try the sport out. Swindon have equipment that is kept for this purpose.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING INCLUDING HELMET IS REQUIRED

Swindon V Newport, 2002
Reviewed 18/5/06, I know this is an old post but the spirit and enthusiasism found when it was written still remain so the post stays! The Welsh club, Newport, now have a cycle speedway track in the Newport Sports Village adjacent to the Welsh National Velodrome.
Well there was some enjoyable cycling, the most memorable being in the challenge match where Team Managers matched junior and senior riders together. The expressions on the faces of the junior riders when they approached the starting gate with the 1999 World Champion and 2001 World Championship contenders next to them made the visit worthwhile in its self.
The result, well Swindon won the match but Newport get the prize here because they have a website that can be linked to.
