AUDAX(UK) FOR THOSE WITH DIABETES
An Audax is a planned cycle ride over a defined route covering from 50kms upto 1600kms passing through identified checkpoints within specified time limits.Time limits are set by reference to AVERAGE speeds which can be between 14.3kms per hour and 30kms per hour.If you think the stated speed for a ride is on the low side check out how far you need to ride to complete the event and how many hills there are on the route before you are overcome with complacency.Rides do not acquire names such as THE COTSWOLD CORKER because they are Sunday afternoon meanders through the english countryside. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! Audax regs state that your ride is a PRIVATE EXCURSION.As a person with diabetes you should FULLY consider what that implies BEFORE you start. The good news is that a cyclist with diabetes has,so I am told, achieved Super Randonneur level,by achieving rides of 200,300,400 and 600kms in the same season.Congratulations to whoever that was, you have set a standard for the rest of us! |
