66MPH ON A STATIONARY BICYCLE
Sunday March 5th saw the Studio Hall,Chippenham Olympiad packed with spectators who thrilled to the spectacle of some of the top track cycle racers in the country battling for a top prize of £500 in the Computer Village Grand Prix. Rob Hayles a 2000 Olympic medal winner took part. The Grand Prix was a series of knockout sprints on stationery rollers and was won by track champion Alwyn McMath, who completed 500yds in just under 18 seconds,giving an incredible average speed of 66 miles per hour. Other winners were: Ladies,vets&juns...Martin Keast and 2nd Kevin Keast(Martin's dad),who shared a bicycle. Fastest Loser .....John Else,Chippenham Whlr Ladies 250yds......Pam Pinkerton,Halesowen Vets 250yds........Kevin Keast,Chequers C.C. Under 8's..........Craig Archard,Chippenham Under 12's.........Luke Rowe,Maindy Flyers Juv.Handicap.......Lydia Cook,Chippenham
The prizes were presented by the chief constable of Avon and Somerset Steven Pilkington at the end of the evening. The event was conduct of the event was undertaken by Chippenham Wheelers with back up equipment provided by Bath CC.
