A Brief History

THL began life in 1972 providing a soup run to homeless people sleeping rough on the streets of Swindon.

Today, we operate a 20 bed direct access hostel for homeless men, providing high quality, short stay accomodation, 7 days a week. We offer advice, support, meals and a laundry service. We also operate 4 resettlement houses , providing long stay accomodation for women and men who require a degree of support and life-skills training before moving into independant accomodation. In addition THL offers a Key Scheme to help homeless people to access private rented accomodation and a Floating Support service to provide advice and support to those moving to independant accomodation. THL has also opened Jubilee House a permanent home for older homeless people.

Threshold Housing Link - FAQ

Q. Who funds THL?

A. THL is funded from a variety of sources, including the local council, central government, a number of local companies and grant making charities & trusts. We are also supported by donations and the generosity of the public in taking part in fund-raising events such as the annual 'sleep-out'.

Q. What age group does THL cater for?

A. THL works with people over the age of 16 . Those under 16 are catered for by social services.

Q. What is the highest age THL will work with?

A. There is no upper age limit , and some clients of THL are quite elderley. However those with age related special needs are often more appropriately dealt with by statutory social and health services.

Q. Who do THL help?

A. THL helps single homeless people of all ages. Families with children can be helped by the borough council or social services, but very little provision exists to help the single homeless.

Q. How are the projects staffed?

A. The hostel at Culvery Court is staffed by 8 workers on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis. Resettlement houses are visited on a daily basis during the week by 2 resettlement staff, and there is an on-call system for emergencies. The Key Scheme has 1 worker, and is open to callers 2 days a week, with appointments available at other times.
