Trowbridge French Twinning Association
Trowbridge has been formally twinned with the town of Charenton-le-Pont since June 1996.We celebrated our 10th Anniversary with a special weekend in June 2006 when the Mayor of Charenton-le-Pont led a weekend visit to Trowbridge.
We have around 80 members in Trowbridge and surrounding villages, but many more people have benefited from twinning with Charenton-le-Pont through school and club visits.
For example, young people from The John of Gaunt School and St Augustine's School, the Southwick and North Bradley Band, the Brownies, and Westbourne Tennis Club and the Bathampton Morris Men have all visited Charenton, as have members of the Trowbridge 50+ Club and the Rugby Club.
In return, we have hosted students from the Notre Dame des Missions School, rugby players of all ages, and the Conservatoire's Choir from Charenton, as well as many members of the Charenton English Twinning Association, including members of their English-learning group who often come to stay with individual hosts here.
Besides twinning visits, TFTA organises regular social activities in Trowbridge and French conversation circles. We publish a bi-monthly newsletter Sur le Pont (in English!) which is sent to members and also available in Trowbridge Library.
