Upavon 2 Wyndham Park 0 5th October 2002
Upavon’s old striking partnership of Chris Norman and Dale Stagg got a goal apiece to give Upavon the points and maintain their solid start to the season. Upavon started the game in a positive mood, knocking the ball around with great confidence and their play was rewarded after only 10 minutes when Dale Stagg opened the scoring. At this point it looked as if Upavon could increase their lead but for some reason they lost their shape for long periods and were unable to finish Wyndham off. Upavon started the second half much like the first, dominating play for long periods and on the hour Chris Norman chipped the ‘keeper to give Upavon a deserved 2 goal lead. Play then got scrappy again and, just like the first half, Upavon were unable to finish Wyndham off and had to settle for a 2 goals to nil win |
Winterslow 5 Upavon 3 - 12th October 2002
A couple of late withdrawals didn’t help Upavons cause in this hard fought match. Playing up the hill and into the wind Upavon got off to the worse possible start, conceding a goal within a minute, worse was to come six minutes later when Winterslow increased their lead and it looked as if Upavon were going to be played off the park.
After 12 minutes Lee Norris scored his first goal of the season with a well struck goal from distance to give Upavon some encouragement. Unfortunately 3 minutes later more sloppy play from Upavon allowed Winterslow to restore their 2 goal advantage.
Upavon slowly started to get their game into some sort of shape and Chris Norman scored after 32 minutes to keep Upavon in the game. Right at the end of the half Chris Norman scored probably the best goal of the game, chipping the ‘keeper to send the sides in level.
Starting the second half looking much more confident Upavon created a number of chances which they should have taken and this failure proved costly in the end with Winterslow scoring after 56 and 70 minutes to take the points in a game where a draw would probably have been the fairer result.

Upavon 4 Enford 1 - 19tOctober 2002
Upavon found themselves a goal behind after only 5 minutes against their closest neighbours and 30 minutes later it seemed that it wasn’t going to be their day when Dale Stagg missed a penalty awarded after the Enford ‘keeper fouled Chris Norman.
Upavon finally got level through an own goal after 40 minutes following some good pressure by the hard working Darren Ball and on the stroke of half time Upavon took the lead through Chris Norman.
Upavon had the better of things in the second half and scored twice through Chris Norman after 65 minutes and Darren Ball 10 minutes later, both goals being laid on by James Norman playing his first game of the season for the club.

Upavon 5 Chalke Valley 3 - 26th October 2002
Upavon made the best possible start to this game when, from the kick off, they went on the attack, hitting the post after 30 seconds and then being awarded a penalty when Chris Norman was brought down. Dale Stagg converted the kick to give Upavon a 1st minute lead.
The game then flowed from end to end with Upavon creating most of the chances but in the 24th minute the Upavon ‘keeper, Ian Stagg was sent off for handling the ball outside the box. Dale Stagg took up the gloves and tuned in a solid performance for the rest of the half and Upavon went in at the break with a one goal lead.
In the second half Upavon took the game to Valley and, despite being a man down played some excellent football to go into a 5 goal lead after 68 minutes with goals from Pete White from a terrific cross from Chris Norman after 53 minutes. Chris Norman then added the third 11 minutes later after a terrific passing movement. Two minutes later Rob Hammerton scored following another slick passing movement. Three minutes later Dale Stagg, who had now been replaced in goal by Martyn Drewitt scored a fine individual goal. Only a superb performance by the Valley ‘keeper prevented Upavon scoring more goals.
The affects of playing a man short started to tell and Valley got some consolation with three goals after 63, 65 and 90 minutes. This was a superb all round performance by the Upavon team.

Morrsion Cup 1st Round Upavon 2 Chalke Valley 1 - 2nd November
Upavon 2 v 1 Chalke Valley
In a repeat of the previous weeks fixture Upavon progressed into the next round of the Morrsion Cup at the expense of Chalke Valley. Upavon dominated the first half playing some excellent football on a difficult surface but with their leading scorer unavailable they lacked a cutting edge and, despite their domination, could only manage one goal in the first half, scored by Dale Stagg after 19 minutes.
Chalke started the second half strongly but could not get the breakthrough they needed and after 66 minutes Upavon increased their lead when Darren Scott score from close range following a corner.
Upavon missed a number of chances to put the game out of reach and Chalk Valley got some reward for their efforts when they scored from a penalty in the 4th minute of added time.
This was another fine team performance from Upavon.
