WARMINSTER & DISTRICT CRIME PREVENTION inc. NHW

A message from Acting Inspector Jim Stannard at the Warminster Police Station which appeares in the Feb 06 NHW Newsletter (see page at left):
" Whilst we are committed to working with Neighbourhood Watch and producing the newsletter, we are keen to hone the newsletter towards specific local issues. With this in mind, can you please advise me of any specific concerns and/or issues that you feel should be covered in the next NHW Newsletter."

From the National NHW Association: Constables in Pathfinder BCUs around the country will have been asked to complete "Neighbourhood Profiles" of their locality. We believe that the neighbourhood watch volunteers are well placed to assist in this profiling work and indeed may already have assisted. Has anyone been asked by the Police to help with the survey ?; would any Warminster District NHW volunteers be interested ? (Please use e-mail link ('Mail Form') on LHS to respond to this message)

Con Man Alert - Sep 05.
Trowbridge Police are attempting to find victims of a potential con man who has been active in the Wiltshire and Dorset areas lately. This man has been "cold calling" at properties, touting for repair work to roofs, and when agreement to undertake work has been made with the householders, the work is either left incomplete, or not undertaken at all. It would appear that his favourite targets are properties with ridge roof tiles, and he tells householders that there is loose mortar, or faults with the tiles themselves.
The con man is described as a white male, muscular build, 5’11" tall, with cropped ginger hair and beard. He spoke with a Yorkshire accent and has a weathered complexion, but not tanned. The man uses a white Ford Transit panel van, in good condition, and on both sides of the vehicle, are images of the "Thomson Directory". He basically works alone, but on occasions has been accompanied by a young child.
On Saturday 10th September, the man was active in the Loyalty Street area of Chippenham, and on Monday 12th September, he was in Granville Road, Melksham. On the 7th September, he was in Swanage, Dorset.
Police Constable Shaun HUNT, C.I.D. at Trowbridge, is very keen to speak to anyone who has either been approached by this man, or whom may have had work completed by him, as a matter of urgency, and they are asked to ring the Trowbridge Police on 01225 763101, or alternatively, anonymous information may be left on the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.

Free public liability insurance is being made available to all Neighbourhood Watch schemes in England and Wales. Please contact Mark Abbott on 01249 449689 for details.

As of 27th July 2005, the W&DCPG has amalgamated with the Warminster Section of the Wiltshire & Swindon Neighbourhood Watch Association. Meetings are held quarterly, usually in Dewey House at 7.00pm. Anyone interested in joining should either use the e-mail link on the bottom left-hand panel or telephone the West Wiltshire Crime Reduction & NHW Liaison Officer Mark Abbott on 01249 449689.

This web site will continue as the Warminster District's* local internet forum for Crime Prevention/NHW volunteers in particular as a source of the local NHW Newsletter produced by the Police on a monthly basis. (* The Warminster District is taken to be coterminous with the Community Partnership Area i.e. the town of Warminster and the parishes of Upton Scudamore, Corsley, Chitterne, Bishopstrow, Crockerton , Norton Bavant , Heytesbury , Sutton Veny, Upton Lovell, Horningsham, Longbridge Deverill, Hill Deverill, Corton, Boyton, Codford, Stockton, Sherrington, Brixton Deverill, Monkton Deverill and Kingston Deverill.)

The Warminster & Villages Community Partnership (see under website links at panel on left) also provides a forum for volunteers to work with official services, local businesses etc on Crime & Community Protection issues amongst others.
