C.C.T.V. VOLUNTEERS
Following a recent C.C.T.V. meeting in Westbury, there is an urgent need for volunteers from within our communities, but particularly Westbury, to assist in staffing the C.C.T.V. camera system that operates in both Warminster and Westbury. The request specifically for volunteers from Westbury is twofold: first of all, is the fact that we only have one operator from Westbury at the present time, and the second point is that local knowledge could be crucial for any incidents that occur within the town. On behalf of the C.C.T.V. Committee for both Warminster and Westbury, I would ask you to consider if you or anyone you know has any spare time that could be devoted to assisting the community and making a difference in the reduction and detection of crime. If you know of anyone, please contact either Les Fry at Westbury Town Council or Alan Richardson at Warminster Town Council, who will gladly assist you in explaining the procedures and the process involved in becoming a valued member of a team that is pivotal in building safer communities and reducing the fear of crime for us all.
SUSPICIOUS MALES
Recently, reports have been received of three to four males in ‘hoodies’ (pullover tops with a hood) snooping around houses in the Woodcock Road area between 11.00 p.m. and midnight. Whilst there has been no reported crime in this area, please could I ask you to keep your eyes peeled and if you have any intelligence, evidence or indeed suspicion, please do not hesitate to contact us at Warminster Police Station. Don’t forget, you can contact CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
DRUGS SUCCESSES
On the 11th and 12th March 2005, three warrants were executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act, in Westbury, following numerous reports from concerned members of the public that drugs were being dealt from these premises. Simultaneous operations were carried out on various addresses, involving local Police, the Dog Section, and the local press were invited along to witness how the Police tackle such problems. Three males and one female were arrested for possession with intent to supply controlled drugs. Following interviews, the female has been bailed pending further enquiries, two males will be appearing before local Magistrates in the near future, and the final male was dealt with by way of a caution. Don’t forget, you can also Shop a Dealer by contacting either your local Police or CrimeStoppers, where your information will be dealt with in strictest confidence.
WARMINSTER BURGLARIES Over the last two months, there have been three burglaries in the Chapel Street and Bread Street area of Warminster. On one of these burglaries, nearly £1500-worth of property was stolen. These offences invariably occur during the day and would appear to be committed by local criminals. Intelligence suggests that they use either a screwdriver or small crowbar to gain entry to the premises. Did anyone see anything or do you have suspicions as to who could be committing these offences? If so, please contact Warminster Police or CrimeStoppers on 0800-555-111.
DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR
With the advent of the lighter nights, instances of disorderly behaviour are being reported in the Broadway area of Warminster, specifically outside of the Tesco Express store on the roundabout.
A meeting has taken place involving numerous agencies that can assist us in curbing any escalation in these offences.
Numerous tactics are to be employed in this area over the coming months, and your help is needed in reporting to the Police or the Housing Officer or the Education Department the names of those people who you either witness causing offences or have heard are responsible for disorderly behaviour.
