GOOD NEWS
I’m sure you have all seen in the local press the recent drugs raid that was executed on the eastern side of Warminster. The warrant resulted in the seizure of approximately £1000.00-worth of herbal cannabis and an equivalent value of hydroponic equipment used in its cultivation. Two males were arrested as a result of this investigation, and were charged with production of a Class C drug. The warrant was seen as a success in our continued fight against the misuse of controlled drugs in Warminster and hopefully sends a positive message that the Police will continue to deal with any and all information received from the public.
ALSO The C.C.T.V. system that covers Warminster and Westbury is now in possession of a state of the art radio system that enables them to contact the Police, not only in the two towns, but throughout the county. This will enable them to be abreast of current crime trends and suspicious incidents, thus providing even greater crime prevention capabilities.
BURGLARIES
May I make you aware of a series of burglaries that are occurring in Melksham, Bradford and Trowbridge, whereby entry is gained through insecure windows and doors due to the fine weather we have been experiencing just recently. Please be warned that if you leave your house, ensure the windows and doors are locked, as I do not want the communities of Warminster and Westbury to suffer a similar fate. The opportunist thief is always out there – let’s not make it easy for them – commonsense on your part regarding security of your property and vehicles will deter these individuals.
WARMINSTER BURGLARIES The last several weeks have seen an increase in the number of burglaries committed where garages have up-and-over type doors. Entry is gained and items stolen from within – normally power tools. I would ask you to help us to prevent these offences by ensuring that your garages are secure and that any items within are either security marked or that serial numbers are recorded, along with any defects or identifying features. Don’t forget, you can contact Mark Abbott at Melksham, should you need any crime prevention advice and/or alarms for your property. Can I also remind you that should anyone have any information as to who is committing these burglaries, please contact your local Police or CrimeStoppers on 0800-555-111.
WESTBURY ARSON
You may recall that back in May 2005, an arson was reported at a farm in Dilton Marsh, whereby hay bales were damaged to the value of £5000.00. Enquiries were commenced by the local Area Officer, Pc Jamie Darvill, and all credit to him, he quickly identified three suspects, all of them juvenile, who have since been arrested and are on bail pending advice from the Crown Prosecution Service as to the best way to deal with them. This demonstrates the ethos that we are trying to promote in the towns of Warminster and Westbury and surrounding villages whereby local Officers deal with local crime. This is of course crucial to the community playing their part in providing local Police Officers with local intelligence.
SUPERVISION I thought I ought to make you aware that I will be away from Warminster for approximately four weeks, following a minor operation and recuperation period. Covering in my absence will be Ray Lewis, who is contactable on the same telephone numbers. I will have my mobile phone with me, should you need to contact me, but I would ask only in an emergency.
