NHW NEWSLETTER - AUG 05
GOOD NEWS
Following a series of damage being caused to motor vehicles in the Boreham Road area of Warminster, two males have been arrested and questioned regarding these offences that occurred predominantly in July 2005. They are presently on Police bail and are due to appear before local magistrates in the near future. Again, two local males have been arrested for a dwellinghouse burglary in Warminster Town Centre. They have fully admitted the offence and have been charged and will appear before local magistrates in the near future. Whilst most of the work was carried out by local Police Officers, it was that little snippet of information that added the final piece to the puzzle that led to the arrest of the above-mentioned local males. Don’t forget, what might seem trivial to you, could be that little piece of information that we need to make that arrest. You can contact us at your local Police Station or on CrimeStoppers on the following number: 0800-555-111.
SPEEDING
I have now been able to train quite a few of the local Pcs in the use of the hand-held speed gun recording machines. I will endeavour to get them to make contact with Area Co-Ordinators so that we can carry out ad hoc speed checks in areas that are causing you concern. Please be aware that this will come secondary to criminal matters but we will try to carry out checks in all of the villages within Warminster and Westbury throughout the coming year.
SUTTON VENY BURGLARIES
During August, three high value burglaries occurred in the village, where property was stolen from premises under construction. It is apparent that a vehicle had to have been used to remove the property that was stolen. Although it is not believed to be connected, several males have been seen; the only description given is that of ‘itinerants’, offering pressure washers and generators for sale. A Ford Transit van has been mentioned as possibly connected with the males but no further information has been forthcoming at this time. If anyone has any dealings with these males and is offered a generator or pressure washer, obviously do not buy it from them and please could I ask you to attempt to obtain the registration number of any vehicle. Please forward this to the Police as a matter of urgency.
GETTING IT RIGHT
Between us, we seem to be doing something right, as the recorded crime in Warminster and Westbury is extremely low and yet detections continue to increase. This is fantastic news, particularly as the crimes that are being committed are opportunist and in the main, not offences against the person, such as assaults.Good news, but I’m sure between us we can do even better.
SUNDAY TIMES ARTICLE 4th SEPTEMBER 2005
You may have read the above article and to allay any fears you have, this is the response from Police Headquarters in Devizes to that article:
"Neither the Wiltshire Police Authority nor the Wiltshire Police has had the opportunity to examine the HMIC document referred to.
Wiltshire Police is consistently in the top quartile of performance tables.
We know from consultation/engagement with our communities over time that the people of Wiltshire value greatly their local Police Force and local policing, locally delivered.
Once the report is published the Police Authority and the Chief Constable will consider the content. Our priority is to ensure the maintenance of the highest quality of policing services for people who live and work in Wiltshire and to engage with staff throughout." |
