NHW NEWSLETTER COVERING JULY 04 (Published 5 Aug)

BEAUTY SPOT THEFTS

The thefts from vehicles in rural locations, principally Heavens Gate and Cley Hill. Longleat and "Clanger Woods" (A350 Westbury-Yarnbrook Road) continue.

We are carrying out patrols when staffing levels allow and have also received help from local school pupils involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme supervised by Special Constable Kestell. SPc Kestell and the pupils have been carrying out their details whilst keeping an eye on our local beauty spots.

Whilst instances have reduced in the last week, people are reminded that should they park vehicles in the car parks at these locations, any valuable properrty should be removed from the vehicle. It appears to be the case that if the thieves cannot see anything worth stealing, they will not break into the vehicle.

Can we remind you yet again to secure your vehicles when you leave them unattended and only take with you those items which are necessary. History tells us that if you leave them in the vehicle, they will get stolen at these remote locations.

RACIALLY AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

A male from Westbury was arrested this month after a racially aggravated assault. The male has been dealt with and received a heavy fine at court. A further male is to be arrested regarding this incident. Wiltshire Police maintain a hard line on racial incidents and anyone experiencing problems of that nature should not hesitate in contacting the police.

GOOD NEWS

Three males from the Frome area were arrested following a burglary at Horningsham Village Church on 20th July 2004. The males had unsuccessfully attempted to remove a safe from the premises but had removed other items from the church prior to leaving. All three males are currently on Police bail and their vehicle has been seized. Rural locations have been targeted in recent months and it is thought that the above three males are part of a group who are travelling the area looking for likely places to commit crime.

If any groups of males (more than two), aged 20-25, are seen in older vehicles (usually 10-15 years old), please make a note of the registration number and let the local Police know.

WALK-IN BURGLARY

There has been a walk-in burglary at an insecure premises in Stuart Green, Warminster on the 28th July 2004, where a handbag was stolen.

Please remember to keep your doors and windows secure to prevent this kind of crime.

WARMINSTER TOWN PARK

The instances of unruly behaviour have begun again in Warminster Town Park. Should anyone using the park encounter problems with local youths, be it abusive behaviour, drunkenness, criminal damage, please contact the local Police as soon as possible.

Recent offences have included break-ins to the kiosk in the park where sports equipment was damaged and strewn all over the area and damage to flower beds. The park is for everyone’s use and we will do everything we can to make sure that remains the case, but we need the help of members of the public.
