GOOD NEWS
During August, enquiries were being made to locate a male who left his fingerprints on the inside of a vehicle when he had an altercation with female motorist near to Longleat House. This male was identified from these fingerprints and enquiries revealed he was also in possession of a stolen motor vehicle, on which he had just changed the number plates and that he was resident in Warminster. He was also wanted on warrant for failing to appear at court for other offences. He is now on Police Bail pending his court appearance. It just goes to show how forensics and D.N.A. identification assist the Police in bringing offenders to book.
SUSPECT MALES
Over the last month, several reports have been received from both Warminster and Westbury areas concerning two males who are attempting to sell large quantities of various tools at greatly reduced prices. These males have been calling from house to house and door to door and initial reports indicate that these males may be of Irish origin. Obviously you should not buy any of these tools, and if you have any information that may assist the Police in identifying these individuals, please contact your local Police Station.
GARAGE AND SHED BREAKS IN WARMINSTER
You may recall that earlier this year, a local male was arrested and served a term of imprisonment for numerous thefts from garages and sheds. These occurred predominantly on the east side of Warminster. This male has been released and over the past week, several similar burglaries have taken place, the items that are stolen are generally toolboxes and their contents and hand-held electrical/battery operated tools. As you can appreciate, it is very difficult to identify these types of items when they come into Police possession. Can I ask you, first of all, to make sure your outbuildings are secure and that items as described are identified by either paint, indelible ink or a mark that is identifiable to you. A leaflet drop will shortly be carried out to each and every household in the area concerned, warning the occupiers of this problem, and offering crime prevention advice. I would ask you to be alert and help us (a) prevent these crimes; and (b) identify and locate the offender. Any information to Warminster Police Station please.
CAROLINE WRIGHT – POLICE COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICER
Some of you will have seen and met Caroline walking around Warminster in the past few weeks. She will be joined by another colleague in mid-October and we should then see a decrease in the instances of anti-social behaviour. Caroline has recently arrested three youths for possession of cannabis and identified several troublemakers who she is in the process of dealing with. Please speak with our P.C.S.O.s when you see them on patrol, as with your help, they can improve quality of life.
HOUSE BURGLARIES
Similar to the above, there has been a slight increase in house burglaries in the rural areas of both Warminster and Westbury over the past month and on some occasions it is evident that the offenders are looking for specific items of jewellery and antiques.
Could I ask you to consider photographing any items you have in your house that are of particularly high value, which would assist the Police in identifying and circulating, should you be unfortunate enough to be subject of a similar burglary.
I would suggest the use of an ultra-violet marker pen which, as you are probably aware, is invisible to the naked eye with which you could mark your postcode on your personal belongings.
I have increased high visibility, uniform patrols in these areas, with a view to deterring any would-be criminals – again, can I ask you to ensure your property is secure when it is left unoccupied and that you give consideration to improving your security, be it by way of lighting or any burglar alarm system you deem necessary.
We have only had four such burglaries, but that is four too many. With your help, we can prevent similar offences.
