KEEP ON THE LOOK OUT
On the 21st September, two males called at an address in Warminster and spoke with the elderly female occupant. They pestered her into allowing them to carry out some gardening work at the address. A fee was agreed, and the work carried out. However, on completion, the males again were persistent (but not threatening) in asking for £25.00 more than the agreed fee. The lady reluctantly paid the £35.00, but was then persuaded to go to the Post Office, to withdraw another £15.00. On arrival at the Post Office, staff asked why the lady was withdrawing the money (a policy endorsed by the Police). When aware of the facts, staff left the Post Office to look for the two males, who were in a vehicle parked nearby. When they realised their tactics had been discovered, the vehicle drove off. We are looking for a white Ford Transit, containing two males, one described as of Asian appearance, 19-20 years of age, short hair, of slim build and approximately 5’6" tall. The second male is described as white, 22 years of age, short brown hair, a roundish face and slightly larger build than male number one. He was well spoken and wearing a green fleecy sweatshirt, with yellow writing on the back. These males left a business card in the name of Oakland Tree Services. If you have any information, please contact CrimeStoppers on 0800-555-111, or contact your local Police Station.
GOOD NEWS
As you have probably seen in the local press, seven persons were arrested in relation to a drugs operation in Westbury on Friday 24th September 2004. On this date, cocaine valued in excess of £10,000 was also seized from the premises. One of these males is presently on remand charged with numerous offences of dealing and possession of Class A drugs. It is anticipated he will receive a lengthy prison sentence. This goes to show how the war against drugs continues, particularly with the assistance of information from the public.
HANDBAG THEFT Again in September, an elderly female had her handbag stolen whilst she was shopping in Safeways (now Morrisons), Warminster. The handbag was on her shopping trolley one minute and then stolen the next. Whilst there was only a small amount of cash in the handbag, it did contain credit cards and her pension book. As you can imagine, not only does this cause a great deal of worry, but also there is extra work involved canceling the credit cards and pension book. Just a reminder then, that in the busy run-up to Christmas, please make sure your property is secure at all times, even when your mind is on other things. No violence was used to steal the handbag, but just be aware that opportunist thieves are out there at all times of the day and night.
Caroline Wright – Police Community Support Officer Just to inform you that Caroline continues with her sterling work in support of community issues. A group of youths were causing a nuisance in the Three Horseshoes Walk, Warminster. Caroline made contact with these youths and they have now moved on to other areas. This illustrates how the P.C.S.O. can impact on quality of life issues.
LIGHTS ON PEDAL CYCLES
As the darker nights and mornings draw upon us again, I have had numerous complaints of both adults and juveniles cycling without lights and on the pavements.
This is an issue that causes everyone a problem at this time of year and this is just a warning for you to pass out to all your residents and members of your Schemes that the Police will be taking positive action and on the spot fixed penalty fines will be issued.
This is to protect not only pedestrians, but also the cycle riders from injury and at worst, fatalities.
