The Town Of Flers, Normandy
Flers is an old textile manufacturing town in Normandy. It was badly damaged during the war but has been tastefully re-built. It is not in a wine-growing area but is proud of its cider and Calvados (apple brandy). There is a beautiful chateau which is now a public building where various ceremonies are held. In the centre there is a massive church and on Saturday there's a market under its walls in medieval style. Like Warminster, many of the "twinners" come from surrounding villages as well as the town itself. |
