Townsend Memorial
The Wiltshire Historical Military Society (WHMS) worked in conjunction with the RAF Yatesbury Association to commemorate the site of 45 Satellite Landing Ground (SLG), Townsend. The airfield was used for aircraft practice landings and aircraft storage by the following units: Feb 1938 – Sep 1940 – 10 E&RFTS Yatesbury – flew Tiger Moths Oct 1940 – Sep 1941 – 10 MU Hullavington – stored Wellingtons & Bothas Sep 1941 – Oct 1942 – 33 MU Lyneham – stored Spitfires Mar 1943 – Jun 1944 – 2 Radio School Yatesbury – flew Proctors |  |

Unveiling and Dedication
Wg Cdr Andy Torrance Officer Commanding LXX Squadron at RAF Lyneham unveiled the memorial and the RAF Yatesbury Association Padre dedicated it.
A guard of honour was found from Standard Bearers from the Royal Air Forces Association Calne and Corsham & Chippenham Branches, the RAF Yatesbury Association, the Royal British Legion and Calne Air Cadets.

David Carson (Chair) and Rod Priddle (Secretary) of WHMS joined members of the RAF Yatesbury Association and local residents. Dave Mosdall represented WHMS and also the Corsham & Chippenham Branch RAFA (Standard Bearer). James Gray, MP for North Wiltshire attended despite a recent fall which caused a severed tendon in his left knee and required a full plaster cast.
