Club Guidelines and Codes of Conduct

Code of Conduct for Club Members and Guests

All Members and Guests of WBCC will:
• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person within the context of Cricket.
• Treat everyone equally and not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.
• Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of discrimination if witnessed.
• Display high standards of behaviour.
• Promote the positive aspects of Cricket e.g. fair play.
• Encourage all participants to learn the Laws and rules and play within them, respecting the decisions of match officials.
• Actively discourage unfair play, rule violations and arguing with match officials.
• Recognise good performance not just match results.
• Place the well-being and safety of Young People above the development of performance.
• Ensure that activities are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual.
• Respect Young People’s opinions when making decisions about their participation in Cricket.
• Not smoke, drink or use banned substances whilst actively working with Young People in the Club.
• Not provide Young People with alcohol when they are under the care of the Club.
• Follow ECB guidelines set out in the ‘Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’ and any other relevant guidelines issued.
• Report any concerns in relation to a Young Person, following reporting procedures laid down by the ECB.

In addition to the above, all Club Officers and Appointed Volunteers will:
• Hold relevant qualifications and be covered by appropriate insurance.
• Always work in an open environment (i.e. avoid private or unobserved situations and encourage an open environment).
• Inform Players and Parents of the requirements of Cricket.
• Know and understand the ECB’s ‘Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’.

ECB Coaches Code of Conduct

Good cricket coaching practice needs to reflect the following key principles.
• Rights – Cricket coaches must respect and champion the rights of every individual to participate in the game.
• Relationships – Cricket coaches must develop a relationship with players (and others) based on openness, honesty, mutual trust and respect.
• Responsibilities/Personal Standards – Cricket coaches must demonstrate proper personal behaviour and conduct at all times.
• Responsibilities/Professional Standards – To maximise the benefits and minimise the risks to players, coaches must attain a high level of competence through appropriate qualifications and a commitment to ongoing training that ensures safe and correct practice.

Code of conduct for club officials and volunteers

• The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below. All volunteers must:
• Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.
• Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and respect.
• Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part
• Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play)
• Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance
• Follow all guidelines laid down by the England & Wales Cricket Board and the club
• Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover
• Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward
• Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances

Junior Club Rules

Wootton Bassett Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect for all participants. They are also encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with Kevin Pamphilon, Youth Cricket Manager.
As a member of Wootton Bassett Cricket Club you are expected to abide by the following junior club rules:
• All members must play within the laws of the game and respect officials and their decisions.
• All members must respect opponents.
• Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
• Selection for all youth games will take place at the Monday training sessions. If a member is not at training and hasn’t informed the team manager then they will not be considered for selection.
• Members must wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.
• Members must pay their subscription by the end of April and match fees on the day of the game.
• Junior members are not allowed to behave in any way that could be deemed to be anti-social or offensive.
• Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.

Code of Conduct for Parents/Carers

• Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
• Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
• Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
• Never force your child to take part in sport.
• Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all.
• Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
• Publicly accept officials’ judgements.
• Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
• Avoid using inappropriate language at all times.

Equity Policy Statement

This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:
Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.
The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.
The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.
All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.
The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.
