Our Club History
Wroughton Folk Dance Club's inaugural meeting was on August Bank Holiday in 1986 when it was decided to hold regular folk dance meetings in Wroughton Infants' School, starting in September. The club prospered, some visitors staying, some going and settling around a good number of founder members who are still with us at our weekly meetings. We do all kinds of folk dance: 17th, 18th, and 19th century country dances, traditional English dances, American contras and squares and dances written today in all these styles. Each year we have a Dancers' Dance bringing in well known callers and bands for the evening. We have 8 club members who call dances and we book a guest caller from surrounding folk dance clubs to call for us fromtime to time We have already celebrated our 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th anniversaries. |
