Friends of Warminster Park

A group of some 15 people, including local Council members & officials, the Police and the Army, have been meeting since Oct 2005 to discuss the state of the Park and its facilities and what might be done to preserve, protect and improve them - visitors will have noticed that some work has been underway on the old Boathouse and Tennis Club hut. The Group have also made suggestions regarding the siting of Dog bins and identified a need for the diagonal path down from the Ridgeway to be improved.

The Group also looked in to the possibility of working to get the Park awarded 'Green Flag Status' (see Link on this page) but this, and other ideas - such as raising the £150000 needed to refurbish the paddling pool - had to be shelved pending a Chairman and Secretary for the group being found. Volunteers for these posts came forward in July 2007 so if you would like to be a 'Friend' and and contribute where you can or be kept informed of developments please make contact via the e-mail link on the left or by phoning the Chairman Steve Welling on 07785114490.

Economy & Tourism Group

This group of volunteers meets regularly to consider the state of the local economy and what can be done to improve it. It takes a close interest in the range of retail outlets available in the town and has run a survey to establish what local people would like to see in the way of additional facilities. Recent successes include a booklet and leaflets publicising locally produced products and services. Further details can be found via the link below:

Warminster Community Transport

The Warminster and Villages Community Partnership is supporting an emerging community initiative which aims to develop improved transport access for people living in and around Warminster, particularly those who struggle to get to local services and facilities such as post offices, shops, youth clubs, therapy centres, doctors etc.

Being developed by a dedicated group of local organisations known as Warminster Community Transport, this community initiative proposes a central point, or "hub" for local community transport services to be located at the CAB Building in Central Car Park, which houses the Warminster Information Centre.

The types of services being considered at present for this central `point' include:
• information about local transport
• community transport services
• services to help disabled people to get to local shops

All local organisations are invited to send a representative to a preliminary meeting to share and discuss this proposal initially with a small number of local community members. (People are welcome to attend as an interested member of the community if they do not represent a community organisation or would prefer not to do so.)

This preliminary meeting will be held on 15th April 2008, starting at 6.0 pm. The venue will be the Gallery of the Athenaeum Centre, High Street, Warminster. The room is located on the ground floor immediately behind the reception area and is accessible to people with disabilities.

Those invited to the meeting include representatives of : Warminster LINK, Warminster MENCAP & Gateway Club, Warminster Youth Club, the Beckford Centre, Warminster Civic Trust, Warminster Chamber of Commerce, Warminster Independent Traders Association, Warminster Surgeries, the MS Society, transport services such as those run under the Connect 2 Wiltshire banner (e.g. RUH Hopper.) village representatives and other interested parties.

For further information about the initiative to be discussed at the meeting please contact Keith Humphries of Warminster Shopmobility on (01985) 218255 or Liam Tatton-Bennett, Transport Officer of Community First on (01380) 722475.

Sport 4 Warminster

A 2008 inititive being lead by Michael Mounde. Sport 4 Warminster aims to bring together representatives of all the local sports clubs, schools, the Army & local government to look for ways in which existing sports facilities can be better used and to work together to identify, resource and deliver improvements. If you would like to be involved please make contact using the Mail Form at the bottom of the LH Panel on this site.

Learning 4 Warminster

Learning 4 Warminster has been conceived by the Warminster & Villages Community Partnership (WVCP) and the Warminster & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce (WDCTC) as a local life-long learning network and forum for the people of the Warminster Area. As a community asset, it is open to all as both a resource and as a framework for capturing ideas and contributions related to education, skills and learning. It is currently seen as:

- a channel for making the people of the Warminster Area aware of learning opportunities and associated funding support and encouraging them to learn new skills, fulfil their potential and improve the quality of their lives at home and at work.

- complementing the learning and training 'Push' by the Learning & Skills Council (LSC) and similar bodies by providing some local 'Pull'. An example of this was the L4W event on 24 February 2004 at the Assembly Hall designed to help local businesses get some of the £16M currently available for Basic Skills and NVQ Level 2 training through the LSC's Free 2 Learn programme.

- ensuring that learning opportunities are presented and 'marketed' in the area in a way that is tailored to people's needs and perspectives e.g. by avoiding 'organisation speak' and otherwise presenting things in an easy-to-grasp manner.
