Origins & activities
The original band,The Devizes Boys Brigade Old Boys Band was formed in 1991, aiming to promote the activities of the Boys Brigade in Devizes. Practice began in earnest during the summer months at Devizes Town Football Club. The intention was to put a band into the Devizes Carnival Procession on Saturday 31 August 1991. Later we relocated to the TA Club, now known as The Wyvern Club. We are a jolly bunch of men and women, varying in age and musical ability, who all enjoy performing at community events such as Devizes, Trowbridge and Pewsey Carnivals, the Devizes Beer Festival to more serious events such as leading the Devizes Remembrance Day Parade and for the Scouts Area St. George‘s Day Parade.
We play not only for the enjoyment that music can bring, but also to raise money for The Wiltshire Air Ambulance. We were able to present them with a cheque for £999 this year. We organise a street collection each December, raising money for our chosen charity whilst playing seasonal music around the town. We also donate all income from our Christmas events to this local and very worthy cause.
It is our aim to still support these local events but we are looking to expand our range of events. |
