Team Frome 4(2) v 2(2) Yew Tree
12 22 80 89 .......... S Green 35 j Glasson 39

Team Frome 2 celebrated thier first Cup win in the Tony Whorlow Memorial cup after surviving a fightback from the Yews who had come back from a two nil decifit. The Fixture had been moved to St Georges fields as Gypsy lane could not be used by the visitors. This should have give the Yews a bit of advantage as well as the determination to convince thier home supporters, that turning up they will see some good football . Player-boss J Glasson also found himself without 8 of his players for the start of the season which limited his options and took away the spine of his side.
Team Frome were made to look good in the first qtr of an hr when they took the game to the Yews and found themselves flat footing the defence with balls over the back four.Goals on 12 ans 22 minutes gave them a deserved lead. The Understrenghted Yews began to settle and they started exploiting the wings . Lee Kennedy who is starting to adapt to the right wing was a constant menace down the right flank and his crosses were causing problems with tf2s defence. The Yews first chance at goal fell to Glasson who ran into the box and in the melee scooped the ball over from five yards. two minutes later Lee Kennedy headed rich Chalmers free-kick into the side netting as the home team spurned into action. The Yews breakthru came from another free-kick from the left when Glasson moved from the back post taking two defenders with him leaving Striker Stuart Green in space to control the ball and sidefoot it in,2-1 Rangers were now making all the right noises and four minutes later Rangers equalised ,welsh Winger Glasson volleyed in a loose ball after stuart green had dummied over Mark wallis long throw into the box. kindly bouncing just right for the yews boss to put them back in contention, and level at half time.
The Second half saw the Yews of to a flyer. From the Centren,Stuart Green crossfield pass was perfect for Kenndedy , but the left winger could only shoot wide. Five minutes later Glasson was denied a second goal when he intercepted a poor throw in from the Tf2 keeper, but the keeper made amends by rushing out to squell the danger and pushed Glassons low shot out for a corner.Team Frome then made a change ,and they came back into the game like they had recharged thier batteries and the Yews were forced to defend deep. it did become end to end with rangers Kennedy again wasting two half chances from cross-fields balls. With extra-time looming Team frome made two more changes which changed the game. The regenarated visitiors were soon controlling the game and took the lead after stretching a tired yews defence ten minutes before time to dimoralise

Yews who had fought so well for 80 minutes.Rangers then seemed to roll over and conceded fourth goal before full time.

DIVISION TWO KNOCKOUT CUP ROUND ONE

pic- The Yews early pressure

SURESET RANGERS (0) 1 V 5 (1) YEW TREE RANGERS

Division two basement boys sureset rangers crashed out of thier first Divisional Cup game against thier local rivals Yew Tree Rangers. Yews Boss JS GlaSson made a lot of changes from the side that gave in to Royal Oak two weeks ago and also put out a brave attacking formation that should have sealed thier passage into the second rd of this Divisional Cup if they had put away thier chances in that half. The Formation put out worked well with the squad and it suited the type of players Glasson had brought into the club. Alex Makwana was again asked to step in between the posts with a back three of Kennedy Chantly and Silva forming a close knit Defence . Self ..Kelly ;Romain and Chalmers formed a midfield with a front three of Wallis Glasson and Stu Green. The Yews took a hold of the game from their kick off and sureset were fortunate thier keeper was alert as the yews peppered thier box from all angles. Sureset defended deep and kept the yews at bay for twenty minutes until Henrik Silvas long ball foward passed the suresets defence and bounced over thier keeper who had to contend with Wallis who ran passed the bewildered keeper to slot in the opener. More pressure from the yews should have them seven nil up. Wallis twice hit the uprights and with a bit more composure from the powerful man m he would have seen three other efforts go in at least hit the target. The half finished with the Yews well in control of proceedings. The Yews second came from Suresets kick off.again Silvas long ball foward was cheekly sidefooted by Chalmers to Stuart Green who raced foward and found his spot.2-0. Sureset who have improved since thier 8-0 beating in pre-season immediatly responsed with a well crafted move while the yews defence were still celebrating thier second goal sureset played some good one-two football and scored.2-1 . this turned the tempo of the game up and it became fiercly fought derby game. Glasson was replaced by Scott Howse. Rangers third came from the left flank. Rich chalmers throughball finding Wallis in space to bamg home his second of the game. Chalmers was not allowed to stay on for his hat-trick of assists as he was soon replaced by Martin read. Another spell of pressure saw Scott Howse goal dissallowed, Mark Wallis shoot wide and a couple of corner effots just going over. Sam sanders replaced the spent Kennedy at the back and the yews added two to thier tally, Lee Romain left his marker and scored from acute angle and then ten minutes before time he was brought down in the box and Stuart Green cooly slotted in the Yews fifth and his second of the game.final score 1-5

GK ALEX MAKWANA
The stand in is making a name for himself. had a quiet game firast half. Pulled out two good saves in the second half . not at fault for suresets goal 7

DC LEE KENNEDY
Did not make one mistake but looked spent after dominating the right side of the box 8

DC NIGEL CHANTLY
Had to be more dominating marshalling a back three was always first to the ball and deserved his Man of the match award. 9

DC HENRIK SILVA
100% Performance by the portugese man who brought that bit of skill to the side. Great awareness of where everyone is. 7

RW LEE ROMAIN
Busy player who didnt make his mark until the second half. his pace was to much for thier left back. took his goal with ease. 7

DMC MARK SELF
A quiet engine in the yews machine, is so confident with his silky touches and his composed play makes him a entertaining player. 7

MC RORY KELLY
Battled well in the centre midfield, needs his side to be more comoposed and fluent before we see the best of him 7

LW RICH CHALMERS
Proved he still has that zest at 38, his two assists highlighted his comeback from his knee injury. 7

FC Jeff Glasson
Busy player who made himself known first half replaced by Scott Howse 6

FC MARK WALLIS
Pestered his boss for the front spot and stamped his name on it. Scored two could have scored more very fast and strong and powerful 8

FC STUART GREEN
A Constant threat all game. times himself well to latch onto chalmers through ball to score his first and cooly slotted from the spot for his second. 7

subs

We Had lost the moment we had no referee

Its always going to be tough going when you have no referee, and even harder when the referee that the home team have found to marshall the game turns out to be almost one-sided. It happens to all teams and leagues and is one of those grey areas in the sport which is catch 22 situation. You need a referee to ref a match so any referee is a godsent and u cant complain about a referee because you have agreed for him to do it, I am just saying that the Jb Lions would not have got away with what they did if we had a official neutral referee. The Referee did help the homeside to thier win, the Yews did add to thier defeat as they let the lions take copntol of the game and dominated the first half and Glassons Players did have a mountain to climb when they went down 2-0 in the first ten minutes,Glassons attempt to try 3-4-3 was soon shifted back to 4-4-2, and the visitors went 4-0 down after cheese conceded a penalty and Glasson was left ball watching as the fourth was driven home from the left.
The Second half resembled the first with the Lions Scoring from the lick off a four man move so clinicly done, making it 5-0. The Yews who had conceded the match to 12 man lions came out for the last 45 minutes more pissed off than hungrier and it was inspirational Boss man Glasson who brought some pride to his side with the goal of the match, It was either Yarek or Chalmers who poked the ball into the path of glasson who turned inside from the left wing and from 25yards(or was it more Kellys 30 yard position ) Saw his volley loop over the keeper and into the net. The Lions were gobsmacked thier wall had been breached. That Goal meant more than the five lions had tallied up. The Yews conceded a sixth five minutes later. Byjion ,Sanders and Read replaced Self, Chalmers and kelly and the yews began to get into the game. man of match Glasson had moved into midfield and there were shades of his old has he jinxed his way foward. The lions had become complaicant and this gave the yews time and space to craete three half chances before Jarek won a penalty. He stepped up and buried the ball inot the net after the keeper had parried his first attempt making it 6-2. The lions added another two goals before the final whistle, 8-2

12 GOAL THRILLER AS TEN MEN GIVE IT ALL

Yew Tree 5 aet 7 Trowbridge aTH

12 goals , 3 pens , a sending off and more than enough goal mouth action to fill the centre pages of the sun(well it was worth the national papers). this game had all the hallmarks of cup classic where the ten man YEWS . came back to win the game. However the Yews could not cross that last hurdle.

Player-boss Glasson had expected to drop himself and a few others after overhauling his squad. New signing Mikee Payne)(one of three mikes joining the squad this month, came straight into the squad to partner STuart Green up Front, Nigel Chantly, rory kelly, gregor byjion, Henrik Silva and rich Chalmers were all missing from the line-up.A shortage of options on the bench saw Glasson among a new looking defensive look wuth kennedy moving into centrte with Collier and Mark Self filled in at right back, Mark wallis paired up with Polishman Filak in the middle with Read and Romian covering the wings.
This goal feast started off quiet quickly with the first of two penaltys, Kenneddy was deeemed to push in the back in the fourth minute . And then ten minutes later he was duped into doing again. Yje opposition by now were going down with the slightist touch and thier flagman flagging like a nudged car alarm. The Yews responsed well and Stuart Green brought the homeside into contention with a good finish two minutes later. A hungrier Yews side then took the game to a Trowbridge and it became a rollercoaster end to end game. The Yews Coaching Player Martin Read then talked himself into in a sending off after comments were exchanged from the line. With qtr hr to go Ten man yews had to defend deep and after conceding to many free-kicks Trowbridge scored a third from a direct free kick. Kye collier was lucky to just get off with a warning when he made a tackle from behind five minutes later which wud have seen The Yews concede a fourth. The Yews ten men defended well up to the break. The Second half The Yews started shaky and nearly conceded an fourth from the kick off but keeper Alex tipped it away for a corner. This inspired the Yews to attack in numbers but there were robbed en-route and the Visitors scored a easy fourth to take the tie well beyond the Yews grasp. well Ten Man Yews had different idea and Glasson went 3-4-2 and gung -ho and it worked. Glasson switched from right back to left wing and once settled soon gave his side a boost. Debutee Mike Payne who won a ball down the right wing had only Glasson to aim at as he had ran into the box and his long ball in was fumbled by the keeper giving glasson a easy tap in....4-2. Trowbridge were all over the place and Jarek throughball found Green onside and oto his second goal to make it 4-3 , Jarek finish off the comeback with a low volley to take the tie into extra time 4-4. Disaster struke when the Yews conceded two goals in a five minute spell in the first half of extra time 6-4. The Yews contined to battle and had to thank Makwana for two stunning saves before the changearound. Mikee Payne then opend his club account when he heaeded in Selfs crossfield ball making it 6-5, But substitute sam sanders was deemed to push in the back for another penalty two minutes before time which finally sank the Yews final score 7-5
