Yew Tree (2) 3 v 3 (1) Griffen FC

pic Nigel Chantley man mountain

Substitute Rich Chalmers found himself at the bottom of a mass celebration pile, after scoring a stunning late equalizer earning his side a point in the first league game of the season. The Yews who controlled much of the match were given a kick up the butt after conceding a early penalty ; but they came back with goals from Stuart Green and Rory Kelly .before losing the lead to to quickfire goals in seven minutes in the second half.
Player Boss js Glasson didnt have much information on the young Griffin side but was able to choose a strong side from a 17 man squad. jAREK FILAK , LEE ROMAIN and RORY KELLY replaced CHALMERS, COLLIER, HOWSE as Glasson ringed the changes from last weeks cup loss.
The Match saw the Yews start of brightly and took an early hold on the game but were caught out by a quick break which saw WALLIS bring down a oppenent in the box. Referee Mike Mead pointed to the spot and Keeper Miliken had no chance with the placed shot. 0-1 .Yews composed themselves and with numbers foward they pressurised the visitors to defend deep and on 23 minutes Club captain STU GREEN poked home from three yards. ten minutes later another rush foward saw ROMAIN clattered in the box, RORY KELLYs penalty was parried away but KELLY was first to react and tap in making it 2-1.The Yews looked a much shape this week with Man of the Match central defender NIGEL CHANTLY dominating the back. and with midfeild Duo Filak and Kelly running midfield it looked like a formula for sucess for Glasson . The second half saw the Yews bring on Polish Gregor byjion in place of Makwana who was marked out of the game, Gregor had a free role and while looking out of touch with the english game he gave the visitors massive ,marking problems. The Yews peppered the Griffins box from the off and only good defending denied the Yews three more goals the worse was GLASSONS who could only head ROMAINS cross wide from two yards. Goal hero RICH CHALMERS replaced Glasson on the left wing and before the goal hero got settled Griffen caught the Yews ball watching and equalised and to add more salt to the wound they Managed to score from a corner five minutes later taking a lead against the run of play.2-3.The Yews sent on sweeper Kye Collier replacing the spent WALLIS and they turned the tempo up and the last twenty minutes they bombarded the away side from all angles but nothing was going the Yews way. RORY KELLY tried long shots while Polish Playmaker Jarek skills and thundernolt shots shot high and wide. Fellow countryman Gregor had a goal dissallowed on 80 minutes when winger ROMAIN was deemed to be offside, but the breakthrough came when Chalmers who had been very quite came infield won the ball turned on his right foot and pulled out a stunning volley that sailed straight into the top left corner to a rapturous applause, sighs of relief and a mass pile up.CHALMERS leveler stirred up the home side who pushed for the winner and FILAK should have done the damage when he tricked his way into the box but his shot went inches wide off the right post. final score 3-3
