SURESET SEAL WIN AT THE ALAMO
Player-Boss Js Glasson Held himself responsible for the defeat last sunday . The 39 year old Manager left five of his big guns on the bench believing the selection he made were able repeat last weeks win over thier Warminster rivals after beating them last week 5-1 in the Divisional Two Cup . The Yews boss opted for a more basic 4-4-2 formation knowing that Sureset would have done thier homework and hoped playing at home his second team selection would be victorous.
Sureset arrived early at St Georges for this thier first league derby game with the Yews and both sides were on the field by 10.10.Kick off came early and the Yews pushed foward straight away and gave sureset early signs of thier intent. Makawana was again selected ahead of Miliken in goal , On-Loan youngsters Sam sanders(rb),Kye Collier(cd) joined Long serving Rangers player John Green and Goalscorer Portugese left back Henrik Silva in the back. Lee Kennedy was given a rare chance to shine on the right wing and Rich Chalmers dwelled down the left. Martin Read and Stu Green filled in midfeild, while expectations were high the gaffa put himself up front with Mark Wallis. The Bench well it spoke for itself. Romain, Chantly, Self,Kelly, Miliken and the Gaffa even ommitted both Polish Midfielders Gregor BJYION AND Yarek Filak from the selection.
The Yews struggled to maintain any sort of flow
and they found a different Sureset side, The Visitors had done thier homework and had Stuart Green and Mark Wallis man marked out of the game for mosty of the match. Sureset were more of a threat as the half wore on with the Yews losing shape. and they were rewarded with their endeavour on 18 minutes when the yews back four were left flst footed and Makwana was beating from close range. ten minutes later Sureset doubled thier lead when Henrk Silva was beat down the left flank and the wingers first time shot was hit at the yews keeper who spilled it into the path of the visitors alert striker. The Yews did respond as sureset began to tire and thier defence got rattled as the Yews pushed numbers foward. Wallis and Stu Green both had half chances saved before Sureset got a third. Kye Collier heading into his own net off a near post corner. 3-0. The Gaffa had to make a change and Sam Sanders was taken off and Nigel Chantly brought on to strenghten the centre. This turned the game as the Yews began to compose themselves and played out the last ten of the first half chipping away at thier opponents.
A half time roasting and a apolgies to his subs who had to watch in disbelief had its affect as the Yews totally dominated the second half. Five minutes into the half a long ball foward by Henrik Silva found Mark wallis and he poked home the to bring the deficit down 1-3.Lee kennedy and john green were then replaced by Rory Kelly and Mark Self and the Yews pounded the surset box from all angels . The second half was so intense for sureset that it was littered with stoppages for injuries to Surset players who were putting it all in, and they defended stubbournly even with ten men. A second goal was coming and a unlikly source provided the ammo for a late come-back. Henrik Silva blasted a clearance from a corner back into the box and it took a kindly deflection off two players before dinking into the net. With ten minutes to go Sureset could not get out of thier 18 yard box, thier ten men exhausted but spirited had to contend with the Yews blizting every part of thier Goalmouth. Shots from S Green M self R kelly were all saved. The Yews had three key chances to equalize, Wallis was a yard out but was stopped before he could pull the trigger and Glassons poke at the loose ball was saved off the line and booted out for a corner. Glasson should have done much better with Rory Kellys left sided crosses to the far side, heading over and wide in the space of five minutes, and Martin Read should have tapped in Glassons chipped ball over the keeper but he missed it completly . A cry of relief came from the visitors as they Compared that second half to the "ALAMO" . while Glassons players looked back at what could have been. |
