Norton Nomads 3 v 3 YEWS
35,57.64 SCOTT HOWSE 22, 69
STU GREEN 34
A bewildered Yews gaffa was last to leave the pitch after seeing his side throw away a three pointer. Downhearted he gingerly walked back to the ston easton changing rooms ,wandering when that bit of fortune will come his way. The first half saw the Visitors at full throttle and were on top against a poor nomads side , Glassons outfit took a a deserved early lead through Scott Howse and then ten minutes later Scott Howse put in Stuart Green for the Yews second. Nomads capitalisied on some complaciany and got back into the game from a four man move that stunned keeper Makwana who barly saw it, Ranger new instated keeper was having the game of his life and showed why hes number one and and his heroics second half earnt him the Man of match award. The Yews continued to threated the Nomads , A minute after the Nomads goal Glasson ran on to Stu Greens pass from the centre but his chested touch was just to close to the keeper. an array of corners still did not reap any reward for the Yews. The Nomads Goal perked them up and they began chipping away but the Yews held well and should have grabbed a third as they stormed foward for a free kick. Rory kellys ball in was cleared only to John Green who saw Left Back Henrik Silva lurking at the back. hes silky first touch gave him time to blast a ball into the bottom right corner but his celebrations were short lived as somehow it found the upright and bounced back into play and out to safty.1-2 half time. Rangers had travelled light to Ston Easton. No polish, no chalmers, wallis Milikin or Read. Kye Collier was also out with a hamstring, and how the Yews could have done with him the second half.
The Second half saw a battle of wills. Nomads looking the hungrier of the two teams but they fell foul as they went foward, Glassons long ball clearance was headed on by Stu Green. Scott Howse was ideally placed and his back to goal looping volley nestled nicely in the top left corner to give the Yews a two goal lead. Game set and Match, you would think. Half time comments by Nomads supporters in earsshot voiced opionins " i cant see the Nomads winning this" may have given the yews a pat on the back, but the visitors defence crumbled after that third goal and the Nomads(with some guy with a wacky mop of hair ) punished the schoolboy marking by scoring two simple goals in a seven minute spell. With no let up the game began to become end to end ,corners free kicks, wild tackles,Great saves .as the Nomads probed foward looking for the equaliser .up against a fast attacking yews side and a referee D Stockton who let the game flow ,made it a entertaining second half. Both sides had further chances but the ones that go in count and the Home side pounced from close range after a melee in the box.3-3With 15 minuts to go Makwana made tweo crucial saves, a point blank shot from a corner was pushed over and a low show across the wet slippery box saw the keeper dive to his right to tip it wide. Towards the last remianing minutes The Yews were inches away from winning Scott howses shot was saved on the line, Lee Romains cross had been headed back into the box and Howse first time shot needed the home keeper to be very alert, diving to his right and picking the ball out the air before crashing to the floor holding the ball on the line. Henrik Silva then saw his long range effort hurtle away to mars before the whistle went. |
