SEVEN HEAVEN
Player-Boss Js Glasson's side finally, yes finally grab thier first win of the season. All that Talking and Training has at last Turned to Points. The Yews dont dominate many Derby games,or any games come to that, but this one they took hold off in the fifth minute and didnt look back. Mikey Payne running on to Stu Greens through ball and hit a left foot volley past the on-coming keeper. The pacey striker was to good for Sursets Defenders and they were going to be in for a torrent time.Glasson was only able to muster up a starting eleven, Regulars Rory kelly and Mark self both missing, while subs Yarek Filak and Gregor Byjion didnt turn up.Rangers lost the last derby game at home, the famouse"alamo" game losing 3-2. John Green was brought in to fill a defensive midfield role while lee romain found it hard going playing in a unfamiliar left back role. Portugese Silva partnered Nigel Chantly in the heart of defence with the regular attacking line up of Glasson, Read ,wallis , S Green and M Payne.
The Yews Player-coach and swagger man Martin Read tested the Suresets Keeper with a long range effort at the beginning of the game, Sureset keeper following goal kick was headed back my Wallis who followed it on before tapping it to Stuart Green who turned and passed the ball between two defenders , Mikey payne lighting run took the sweetest of touches before volleying it home 1-0. ten minutes later Mikey Payne grabbed his second, a one two between Stuart Green and Payne had the sureset defence in sixs and sevens and Payne was able to scoop the ball over the keeper with his right foot. 2-0, It was one sided with Sureset not really having any time on the ball. most of thier play was down the left wing ,but Glasson and Kennedy soaked up much of the pressure. Rangers Third came from a counter attack, surset who had finally breached the Yews defence wasted two good opportunies to get back into the game and were hit by a counter attack, Martin reads cross into the box was inches away from being headed home by glasson, until a defender managed to boot it out of its intial path for a corner. Reads corner was then headed home by Payne to seal his Hat-trick. 3-0. Number four came from a good built up down the right flank, Chantly found J Green who saw Glasson in space and his cross into the d was superbly controlled by Payne to tap in his fourth.4-0. The Yews still did not look happy with themselves but instead of taking a more composed hold of the game they kept on the besiging and were soon strecthing themselves. Sureset found some hunger and began playing some good football , they were given a lifeline when some relaxed defending by rangers gifted them a opportunie, Goalkeeper Alex Makwana who had not had a sniff of the ball spilled a easy save and suresets striker had a simple tap in 4-1,Thier joys were short lived as the Yews soon added a Fifth.Again another surge foward by S Green poked the ball to Payne, but he was muscled out by a defebder who lobbed his own keeper with a bizarre clearance for a own goal. Mark Wallis grabbed the Yews sixth benefiting from another S Green assist. M reads crossfield pass was headed foward to Green who passed it back to Wallis who powered foward into the box and shooting low into the net. 6-1.
The second half saw another side to the Yews, more than seven players defending every sureset attack. The first half had taken its toll on the visitors and they started to defend deep. Sureset also had both Payne and S Green man marked by two players. This had a big effect on the way the Yews Played, Both wingers were called into more play and John green had space to venture foward from his defensive duties, Surset had tested Makawana from the kick off and they continued to up thier game from this moment . But it was John Green who continued the goal feast for Rangers with his first ever goal for Rangers in a five year spell. His 20 yard hopefully shot was so thunderous it ripped into the top right corner making it 7-1. Sureset responded well and for the rest of the match it was end to end, Thier persistant paid off and they grabbed a second goal. ten minuts later Kennedy brought down a player in the box, but the poor penalty was shot straight at Makwana who is growing with confidence. Ten minute from time The Yews Player boss was again denied a goal when another M read cross was headed out of his reach and a further shot was comfortly saved. The game ended 7-2,this was not a champions win nor was it as easy as it writes. This is the turning point that the Yews had warned us about. This is the beginning. some poor team was due a drubbing and others will follow. Watch This Space!! |
