Payne numbs the Painly display

In-form striker Mikey Payne opened the scoring first half then saved the Yews bacon in the second half scoring his second of the game from the spot. It was a point gained as the Yews were second best to everything. Tho it could all have been different if Rangers Keeper had not saved a penalty a mintue from time.

Player-Boss Glasson travelled the long journey to white city with a squad of 14 players, making two changes to the side that lost to Team Frome.

This was to be a hard fought battle by two teams at the bottom of the table, scraping out a survial package to move out of the worst team in the league catogery. But looking at the game and the homeside, they were far better than thier table stats showed. Greyhound deserved to win in my eyes going on the first 75 minutes as they controlled this game and dominated , playing some good football and pinging the ball about with ease espically in the first half. Greyhound tested Makwana in the first minutes and then proceeded to settle quicker and give the visitors something to think about. But against the run of play the Yews took the lead, Glassons Cross found Payne just outside the i6 yard box, but Payne was crowded it out, his shot was blocked and bounced kindly for Rory Kelly who shot straight at the keeper, who unsighted , parried away, only for Payne to tap in from three yards. 0-1

Greyhound responsed well, and chiselled out somemore chances, only for the Yews defence to soak up the preassure. but Greyhound looked likely to score sooner than later, and they did after the Yews squandered a succession of Rory Kellys coners. The Yews had been pushed deep into thier own half after greyhound held the ball without a challenge, and while passing back and for outside the box one of thier players pulled out the best goal i seen for a while, unchallanged he played a one two before looking up and placing a curling low shot through the packed box and passed the strecthed ,Makwana. 1-1. with ten minutes to go Greyhound took the lead, a long ball foward bounced over the defence, a mix up between keeper and defence meant the ball was then poached by a alert striker who tapped it in. Greyhound could have added another two from long Range efforts, but Makwana was on hand to tidy up. half time 2-1

The second half saw the introducion of wallis and horton for sanders and J green, as the yews looked to get back into the game.It was two straght swaps with wallis giving the middle a bit of hieght and aggression and horton some pace down the right flank. Once settled the yews began to play some football, An early sign saw glasson run on to Stuart Greens throughball before being forced out wide by the Greyhound keeper , then fouled just outside the box. the resulting free-kick was just headed wide. Read replaced Glasson on the left wing and continued the yews fight back. Stuart Green had a couple of chances running on to Reads long balls but always ran out of pitch, while Payne kept being denied by the linesman. Greyhound hadnt gone awol, they to were making headway only for Makwana and defenders Chantly and DA Silva clearing up every loose ball, Makwana made a double save that erased his first half perfromance before punting a long ball foward, Wallis headed it foward to Payne, who misread the bounce, fortunate to see the on comming defender hand ball it inside the box. PAYNE duely planted the spot kick home to make level the game.Birthday boy Stuart Green then came closest to getting the winner, a chase between him and the keeper saw Green slide volley his grass cuter across the face of goal.Greyhound could have nicked all three points after a melee in the box, but Makwana was deemed to be fouled before the ball crossed the line and then a Greyhound player marred his teams performance by diving in the box to dupe the stand in referee into giving a penalty, but justice was done when Makwana saved the poor penalty. final score 2-2

This was two points wasted by a side who throught greyhound were going yo be a walk over. The Yews are better than thier league placing, so why they think Greyhound couldbt be either.

Referees Man of the MATCH - Rory Kelly

Midfielder who was hungrey for it but lacked support.
