Hit for six but heads stay high
Peasedown may still have won convincly at the end but it looked a different story when the Yews Rory Kelly pulled one back on 63 minutes to make it 3-2 to the home side who had sparked to life in the second half.
The Yews game was one of few played on sunday, Peasedown having to switch to playing on the sticky pitch of Peasedowns Athletic just down the road.It held up well for the 90 minutes making it a very entertaining end to end game with the hosts making the most of thier chances and the YEWS Rueing chances missed. Player Boss Glasson was missing Goalkeepers Makwana and Da silva, so Striker Stuart green resorted to his old job he held for five years(and going on his display looked every part of a top keeper). The Yews looked to have put out a 4-5-1 formation hoping to maybe get a point from the game, and at times looked to even snatch a surprising win.
The first half started brightly with Peasedown pinging the ball about with thier long ball passing and they looked like a team already promoted,The Yews on the otherhand were adjusting to thier new formation, and not really creating enough for Mikey payne up front.Peasedown opened the scoring on twenty minutes after finally chipping through the yews defece who had soaked up much of the early pressure. The Yews then leveled after a good build up had the Peasedown defence in sixes and sevens before Payne netted the equaliser from close range. 1-1. Mikey payne and martin read and wallis all had snapshots saved before Peasedown restored thier lead. Keeper Green miskicking a clearance allowing the easist of tap ins, then five minutes before half time the Yews Conceded a third. Mark self having the ball taken off him in his own box before seeing it tapped into the net.3-1 half time
Second half saw a more adventous Yews take the game to Peasedown and for 15 minutes the Yews battled hard denying Peasedown anymore goals and making chances. Rory kelly who was pushed up to assist Payne, found Payne in space more than once but the pacey striker either shot at the keeper or offisde. But thier persistance paid off after a poor defensive pass was intercepted by Kelly who did a one two with Payne before rifling in a deserved goal. 3-2 and all to play for. The Yews fightback didnt last long as the homeside added two quickfire goals in five minutes to make it 4-2,Further advantages from the Yews were unsuccessful and the Yews were hit for two more goals. a cross from the left side into the box surprised everyone by curling into the top right hand corner over a bewildered Green who having seen it late tried to acrobatly tip it over to no avail. The sixth goal came from another cross, this time from thre right Glasson just beaten to the ball at the far post. final score 6-2.
