Yews leapfrog up the table
The Yews Grabbed three valuable points at Gypsy lane after beating hosts, Trowbridge Athletic 4-2 in a evenly matched game. The Yews now have taken 7 points from a possible 12 . This Is thier best run so far this season and leapfrog Westfield Trojans in thier first move in the table since October. Mark wallis, rory kelly and a brace from in form striker Mikey Payne helped put the club three points away from mid table.
Before this thursday midweek clash away to Trowbridge Athletic .Player-Manager jeff Glasson openly admitted responsibility for the defeat at Mells last week at the hands off Permaframe, but also laid blame on those players who didnt want to play the formation(england all over again). Glasson was able to have all but one of his squad unavailable, Keeper Alex Makwana out for two weeks with his shoulder injury , Glasson made one change to the squad Pringle replacing Kennnedy at right back, sessam Oyetunge current displays kept him on the right wing again with returning lee Romain listed on the bench.Portugese Star Henrik da Silva took the number one jersey.
The home side were the brighter in the first twenty minutes, thier long direct ball causing a few scares on the dry surface, and if they had a decent strikerforce upfront who know the offside rule and how to work as a team then the Yews would have been two down early on, however lady luck seems to shine as Trows first effort was shot into the side netting and Mark self did enough to help cause thier striker to scuff thier shot wide. The first twenty minutes the Yews looked jaded and short of ideas but the match changed when a Da Silva long ball found Mikey Payne on the right flank and tested the keeper froma acute angle, ne was not far short of the traget but the keeper safely pushed the powerdrive out for a corner, the Yews then found themselves in control of the match, every ball that came the yews way was soaked up by the defence or they had the offside to a tee. Nigel Chantly was superb at the back his vocals could be heard echoing through the somerset surroundingd and his timly interceptions proved rewarding, one of his clearance headers was met by Ses oyetunge who won a corner.and the Yews opened the scoring after Mark Wallis tucked in a Martin Read corner threw a meele of players, Rory Kelly then doubled the Yews score after a one two to with Striker Stu Green and then cheekily lifted the ball into the box and saw the ball bobble among the players and then took a touch off the keeper before finding itself in the corner of the net. The First Booking cam from a dangerous tackle on the Gaffa that sounded quite nasty but the Veteran managed to run it off, Wallis Oyetunga and Payne had further chances go sparingly wide before half time.
The Second half saw Andy Pringle replaced by Lee Kennedy and Sesam Oyetunga By Lee Romain as they sought for more goals.and they soon come Rory kelly was fouled in the box after running onto Glassons throughball, Payne stepped up and cooley slotted home to make it 3-1. Trowbridge then made a few subs which brought them back into the game, and the Yews had to withstand a a spell of pressure, again woeful shooting saved the Yews as they began to lose thier shape. wallis found himself booked for a 50.50 tackle and then the home side brought themselves into the game after overriding the yews defence and looping the ball over Da Silvas head to make it 1-3.with light fading away so did composure and both teams looked like they were playing 5 upfront. but it worked for the Yews who saw a belter from mikey Payne whos flying kick volley buried itself in the topleft corner, when u needed a video camera for a replay that was the time. to nake it 1-4. The home side scored thier second five minutes from tim a penaltyl ittle to late but nigel chantly got a yellow card for blatantly grabbing the ball in the box which conceded the penalty, John Green came on for the spent Martin Read to close up the back
